Re: New to the whole: using a Rasp as wireless audio system?

Wait, no. That's those products. Not what I have in mind. I already have an audio output in the air as wifi or Bluetooth. So I'm trying to make/have a device that's receiving those signals and redirects them to an audio jack out, whilst being hooked up to a wall socket. No batteries. Why not a blue...

I see.

BTW, this will be a GUI IDE right?
And not just a Command Line compiler..
Yes, GUI. It's working fine on my 3b+.

Re: RPI Zero WH - Raspbian Buster - Firefox not starting...

Hi. Is Firefox-esr running on a Raspberry PI Zero on Raspbian 10 Buster? I can run it on a RPI 3, tested, but it DOES NOT RUN on a RPI Zero... Is it a problem with my installed OS, or something related to RPIZero/Firefox? Thanks, Valter Firefox esr crashes on my Zero W as well. I don't normally nee...

My two Zero W servers.

One picoreplayer w/ LMS for music to chromecast. The other runs MyMediaAlexa which can stream my audiobooks to Echo Auto by voice command.

The cable box they're sitting on is unplugged, never used.

Hi Everyone, Looking in the repository, calibre should be on version 3.39.1 https://packages.debian.org/source/buster/calibre However, when I try to update it, the pi says that it's on the latest version of 2.75.1 [email protected]:~ $ sudo apt-get install calibre Reading package lists... Re: Easy question? Alexa ~ NAS concurrent?

Took me 4 days... That's my point it was not wasted time. I just want to succeed like everyone else. I've been mucking about with Pi's for less than 2 months. I'd say about half the time my project attempts fail. I just format the SD and try again after reading more or finding a different approach....

Re: Uses for Raspberry Pi Zero/Zero W?

Not so very long ago a machine with the performance of a Pi zero was a thing of fantasy, affordable only for high end engineering workstations. What still seems damn near miraculous to me is getting this kind of functionality in something so tiny and with such miniscule power requirements. I'm sitt...

Re: How's it been going with 2 GB vs. 4 GB?

It makes sense to get the one with the most ram that you can afford, the same as with any other computer. 8-) I bought a 4GB - web browsers have a tendency to need more ram over time, so I should be safe for a few years now. ;) Since my first 286 in the 80s, what's worked for me, is to get what I n...

Re: Easy question? Alexa ~ NAS concurrent?

Yes. Well, yes, if a simple SMB server qualifies as NAS. I installed MyMediaAlexa yesterday and it's running along with SAMBA/SMB server. Pi 3b+, 32GB A1 micro SD, Buster. MyMediaAlexa is just an application/service that runs on Raspian, so my guess is any NAS software that does likewise could co-ex...

Re: kiosks for dummies?

I tried the setup guide I found here: https://pimylifeup.com/raspberry-pi-kiosk/ and it's working. I left off the --kiosk. Didn't need it. I only have one page to display, so I tried taking out the while-do loop, but it wouldn't load chromium that way, so I put the loop back with just a longer sleep...

Re: Accessing iTunes via Raspberry Pi Alexa?

I don't have answers for you. I'm very new to this stuff myself. But what I've been investigating and setting up for myself is similar enough that I'll mention what I've found so far for my local music files. (Mostly mp3 ripped from CD, some old favorites not available on any streaming service) My f...

Re: kiosks for dummies?

Hippy is right.

This should be easier than I was trying to make it out to be.

I don't need anything fancy, I just don't have space for a keyboard and mouse.

I'll try some stuff a bit later.

kiosks for dummies?

I've googled kiosks for pi and feel overwhelmed with the variety of pages that came up. Many seem to require more advanced Linux than I can handle. Can anyone point me to a SIMPLE setup guide? I want to display one web page, it's a status page that refreshes itself frequently, uses Javascript, no re...

Re: Is starting with a 3B+ a bad idea now that the 4b is out?

Good points. I think you've convinced me to go with the 3b+. Thanks to all for your input! Folks here gave me such thoughtful and well reasoned replies that I think it's appropriate to report back on results a month later. I went and picked up a 3b+ kit from Microcenter, and a Zero W as well. I'm g...

Re: i have a tight buget. is the pi 3 worth buying or should i just buy the 4

And the question itself makes no sense, they're all at the same price... Ah well, maybe someone will want to expound on the compared TCO of Pi3 and Pi4, including energy and accessories costs... :D I asked a similar question a week or two ago. Purchasing locally, the 3b+ kit at Microcenter was $40,...

Re: Is starting with a 3B+ a bad idea now that the 4b is out?

The Pi 3Bs and stretch have been around for a long time and there is only maintenance being done on the contents of the repositories. With the 4B many programs have not been updated or even ready for buster. Also there is a lack of cases and cooling options. I would go with the any of the 3B models...

Is starting with a 3B+ a bad idea now that the 4b is out?

I've been thinking about getting a pi 3b+ for a while, not with any definite goal in mind, just to muddle around with. Now, I find out about the 4b. The main problem is there's no 2 or 4 gb versions available at the moment. Micro Center seems to have 1gb only in stock. 2nd, there is a cost differenc...
