I understand the RPi4 has a completely new Ethernet setup with the PHY now hooked up directly via PCIe rather than USB.
No. The new USB chip on the Pi 4B uses the PCIe channel.

Ethernet now uses a dedicated Ethernet channel from the SoC to the PHY chip.
I misread. This is correct.

Re: u-boot port on RaspberryPi 4

Excellent job, agherzan! Can't wait to test this on my lab RPi4 and eventually seeing it upstreamed! I'm primarily interested in using U-Boot to netboot a kernel/initrd via Ethernet, with just U-Boot and the firmware blobs residing on the SD card, this already works beautifully on RPi2/3. I underst...

Re: Run Raspbian on Raspberry Pi 4 64bits kernel

Hello, I am new to rpi development, and havent really built a kernel before, so please bear with me.. I tried following all the steps mentioned at https://andrei.gherzan.ro/linux/raspbian-rpi4-64/. The steps have been explained very well and I successfully completed all the steps. However, when I i...

Re: u-boot port on RaspberryPi 4

U-Boot support is available now in both 32 and 64 mode Raspberry Pi 4*. Fork branch mentioned above (https://github.com/agherzan/u-boot/commits/ag/rpi4) includes support for both targets - tested them on a 4G variant. You can also use [this](https://andrei.gherzan.ro/linux/uboot-on-rpi/) small guide...

Re: Run Raspbian on Raspberry Pi 4 64bits kernel

I'm simply planning to hack a copy of Raspbian Buster to run with a 64-bit kernel and 32-bit userspace on a 3B+. Just for the mild amusement of doing that. I'm not planning to buy a RPi4B until a) they're back in stock and b) the RPF/RP(T) folks have shot more of the bugs in the firmware and Buster...

Re: u-boot port on RaspberryPi 4

Thumbs up for documentation. Life would be much easier with that. In my case I think the memory map is wrong or I have a bug somewhere. As soon as the MMU is enabled `set_sctlr(get_sctlr() | CR_M);` everything goes silent. I'm not sure if it's an abort or it's just the console. In other words I orde...

Re: Run Raspbian on Raspberry Pi 4 64bits kernel

Thanks Sakaki. So the bottom line is running Raspbian with a 32-bit userspace and a 64-bit kernel should be possible (but needs some hard work). What do you plan doing? You can use the same guide to build yourself a rpi3 64bit kernel too. The only change is the defconfig in that guide and some conf...

Re: u-boot port on RaspberryPi 4

Sorry, but I just stumbled over your post here and I actually wonder if you have any working u-boot version at hand now that actually boots correctly with a raspberrypi4? Could you please share some information with us or point us at the right position where we could find a u-boot version for the r...

Run Raspbian on Raspberry Pi 4 64bits kernel

While adding Yocto support for Raspberry Pi 4 (32 and 64bits) I thought that there are a couple of bits that might help others when integrating various other support for this board. TL;DR guide for compiling Raspberry Pi kernel, stubs (including toolchain and cross-compiler) guide for booting Raspbe...

u-boot port on RaspberryPi 4

I started to work on supporting RaspbverryPi 4 in u-boot and now I'm at a point where u-boot boots, I have serial output but I but it dies as it follows: DRAM: mbox: Timeout waiting for send space bcm2835: Could not query ARM memory size initcall sequence 00000000000d1a18 failed at call 000000000008...
