Re: RPi to old TV set up...

Your recent TV purchase will be 625 line display, so at best you are looking at 800x600 resolution. This would allow you to play YouTube videos in 480p maximum. The modulator on Amazon might be OK. The bad reviews may be from people trying to use them on modern tv's that do not have analogue mode en...

Re: Storage recommendations

With my Pi4, and the beta MSD bootloader, I use a USB 3.0 to mSATA adapter board ( https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PC-Mini-mSATA-SSD-to-USB-3-0-SATA-Adapter-Card-External-Caddy-Converter-Board-/283891820337?hash=item4219456731 ) and a toshiba 128Gb mSATA SSD which cost me £20 as a new old stock Acer spar...

Does rpos/64 already have support for boot from usb on the pi4, or do we still have to manually copy special elf/dat files to the boot folder? Re: USB-MSD boot EEPROM update - 2020-05-28

Hi, I'm trying to test out the latest update (2020-05-28). I've done the firmware update using rpi-update following the instructions posted. I've then written the latest Raspbian Lite to a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD. I've removed the SD card, plugged in the SSD into a USB3 port with a USB-SATA bridg...

Re: Pi4 running on 12V battery

I have a Pi4 running ( optionally ) from a 3 cell Liion battery pack. ( MagPi issue91, page 28 ) I've used an Atmel AtMini85 microcontroller to measure the battery pack voltage, roughly display status on 4 LEDs, and initiate a safe shutdown of the Pi before the battery voltage drops too low. The lis...

Re: External HDD on PI

A SSD attached to one of your USB ports will make your Pi more responsive. However, its speed will be limited by the USB connection, and there are certain caveats. I use a Toshiba 128Gb eSATA SSD with an ASMedia Technology ASM1153 3Gb/s bridge. The three scenarios I've used this in are: 1) Pi3B+ whe...

Probably the same size as the SOC, 11 or 12 millimetres if I recall.
There isn't much point in going bigger and you just risk shorting out against SMD components

Re: Pi4 desktop overfills screens

Not sure if this is what fixed it, but I had the same issue with my Pi4 on my 2019 Panasonic TV. On the TV settings I changed a mode on the HDMI inputs from , I think, HDMI1 to HDMI2. Either that, or the other way round.
