Re: M.2 SSD RPi4?

at last I have the ssd working in ubuntu on my old (but good) computer and it is recognised by the RPi4, showing the file I loaded on my old computer, which I successfully loaded into Audacity on the RPi4. All works (ATM) I cannot say for sure what I did to get to this stage, I tried a lot of things...

Re: ssd compatibility

OK, I have it working. I had to format it every conceivable way before it would work. During my journey, somewhere it said it had 'Atari' something or other. It was replaced with 'sun'. Don't know what that means, but I don't care. If others are having problems, suspect the chipset in caddies, only ...

Re: ssd compatibility

thanks a lot, swampdog, much appreciate your kind approach. Only difference comparing before and after connecting ssd via usb3 is addition of : sda 8:0 953.9G 0 disk however, if I connect up the ssd with a powered USB, it doesn't show the ssd. Hope that helps someone? When I try to access the ssd vi...

Re: ssd compatibility

swampdog, thanks, so what formatting did you use?

Roken, the astounding info is not necessary, either it is compatible, or it isn't. Doesn't seem to be. SSD in caddy with ASMedia chipset, through USB3. Pi4 recognises the ssd, but does not show any files.

ssd compatibility

it is possible to use an ssd card (Samsung 970PRO) on a PC type computer (running ubuntu) and use the same device on a RPi4 USB3?

Is the formatting different?

My RPi 4 recognises the ssd but does not show any files I loaded onto it using the PC/ubuntu.

Re: M.2 SSD RPi4?

I have now tried two different interfaces/caddies, the latest one with ASMedia chipset, which supposed to work. It doesn't, although both caddies work with my old very basic computer. I tried the fix mentioned above, but that didn't fix it, either. At the end of my tether. Anyone have success with a...

Re: 970pro not working on RPi4

thanks, but didn't do anything when I followed the instructions. Really finding all this a drag, RP4 was fine to start and download OS. from then on, nothing but problems. This is the 21st century, guys, it just gets harder to do things, whereas it should get easier. Anyone got a 970PRO to work on a...

970pro not working on RPi4

I'm trying to get my Samsung 970PRO working with a RPi4. Although the Pi says it recognises the ssd, it does not like it and sends out error messages. I think I read that my caddy/interface uses a JMicron chip set, but people say it doesn't work, and recommend an ASMedia based one. I need one with a...

thanks, I was going to use another supply for the fan, with temperature and feedback, maybe even a Peltier device.

Re: cooling for RPi4

thanks for the replies. I don't have a case, yet. I'm from a place where heat sinks are king, and fans hardly ever used (except in computers!). I was thinking to put a heat sink on the CPU, put the SSD caddy (aluminium case) in the same box, and fan the lot; maybe with a peltier device for extra coo...

cooling for RPi4

I've bit the bullet and I'm going to use a 1TB SSD on a RPi4. I tested the SSD through a USB on my old but good computer, and although it recognised the SSD on switch on, did not do anything else. The SSD ran hot, I concluded that the USB on my computer cannot supply enough current for the drive. No...

Re: M.2 SSD RPi4?

I have ordered a M.2 to USB interface with an M-key connector, I'll try that on my present system, if it works, then I'll move for a RPi4. I'll report back one way or another.

Please keep on topic, guys and gals.

Re: M.2 SSD RPi4?

So, no problems with Amazon? I hope it stays that way, but have a problem, and you will know what 'problem' really means. I did not say I've never had a problem. I said problems were few and Amazon always resolved them quickly. If you are in the UK, then why did you order from Amazon USA? And have ...

Re: M.2 SSD RPi4?

yep, B or B+M won't work. It has to be M key. US posted the item to me, and took money from my debit card account. It is there in green and white! The UK will have nothing to do with my problem, and neither will my bank (so I have opened a new a/c at another bank). Up until now, I have not had any p...

Re: STICKY: Introduce yourself!

Hello, I'm Bryan, from glorious Devon. I have a few Pi's, but not have them working yet! I have been into microprocessors for about 45 years, starting with 8 bit, then Texas 13bit, then two Archimedes computers, but eventually had to get a PC running Ubuntu. Had quite a bit of experience writing and...
