Re: USB-MSD boot EEPROM update - 2020-05-28

Are there any outstanding bugs to be squashed? Are we looking at a "when it's done" stable release date or do we have a timetable when everything will go to a stable public release?

Re: How to setup Minecraft 1.15.2 on Pi4

Your download location is broken (cd~ needs a space) and your URL is user/time specific. You need to modify the runMC script to change the OptiFine to pre18 from pre13: Use this URL to manually place the file in the ~/Minecraft folder: https://optifine.net/adloadx?f=preview_OptiFine_1.15.2_HD_U_G1_p...

Re: How to setup Minecraft 1.15.2 on Pi4

Thanks for this. I was able to install this to the same directory and crazy enough I can run both versions 1.12.2 or 1.15.2. The main hangup for me is the performance is much worse. I would typically get about 50-60 fps in 1.12.2, not I get about half that: 25-30 :( I assume that there are few thing...

How is the performance overall when switching to an SSD? Does Chromium operate any faster with page loads, etc?

Re: USB-MSD boot EEPROM update - 2020-05-28

Should that other thread be closed at this point? I think it may be causing confusion. "Raspberry Pi 4 USB mass storage beta (beta means it not ready yet, and not officially released!)" here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=274595 Thanks for all the test reports. Re: Raspberry Pi 4 USB mass storage beta (beta means it not ready yet, and not officially released!)

Installed the "2020-05-27 Fix DPI issue - BETA" version of the EEPROM today - I've been trying out the previous betas throughout the last week and weekend. Before that I had (obviously) updated all possible packages and ran 'sudo rpi-update' + rebooted. After running rpi-eeprom-update with the beta...

Once having got the USB boot working... ? how does one clone and existing SD card onto a USB device so I don't have to reinstall/reconfigure a bunch of stuff? Thanks in advance Raspbian Buster with Desktop includes SD Card Copier which will work with MSD's It would be nice if there was a guide when...

Re: Google Hangouts with Raspberry Pi 4B - Request to Raspbian Foundation

So are people just saying that webcams dont work generally, or that some specific webcams don't work? I would expect most to work fine on the Pi4. My creative labs webcam does not work and I suspect the audio could be borked in Chromium too since the USB audio isn't playing nice with my correct set...

Re: Google Hangouts with Raspberry Pi 4B - Request to Raspbian Foundation

Then where is the headphone jack? I don't mind paying extra to the foundation for something that works out of the box. Ummm.... it's right there, next to the HDMI connector. I guess you meant "Microphone jack". Yes, having a mic input would be great. The again, you would have to buy a microphone. R...

Re: Google Hangouts with Raspberry Pi 4B - Request to Raspbian Foundation

That's great, but I still feel the lack of microphone and drop in webcam is something the foundation could do to improve the idea that the PI is a desktop replacement. Well, to be fair, most desktops (not talking about those All-In-Ones, but the classic CPU tower + Monitor + Mouse + Keyboard) don't...

Many people use the RPI as a surveillance device. can you post link to "official source" where you based this statement? Do a Google search for people using their RPI as a surveillance camera? Perhaps you misunderstood my statement as there is surveillance code inside the official repository or som...

Re: Google Hangouts with Raspberry Pi 4B - Request to Raspbian Foundation

A fixed focus seems more useful to me right now as the auto focus is always drifting in and out if my hands get in the picture. I've set my camera pointing downwards towards the desk to turn it into a document camera. It works great for delivering maths lectures where you actually show how to do th...

Does anyone know if this fix for overclocking the GPU is available in a regular apt update?
Yes, been in there for weeks.
Thank you for the fix. I didn't want to test it just to find out I have a brick. The shift key trick doesn't work for my 4B on boot. Perhaps it's my keyboard?

Re: Google Hangouts with Raspberry Pi 4B - Request to Raspbian Foundation

Yeah, it seems like with the school closings and everything going online learning it's very very hard to find an affordable webcam (hi demand -low inventory) AND that may or may not work with the RPI. I ended up using the official camera, a USB headphone/mic adapter, and a headset. Chromium doesn't ...

Re: DVFS Firmware

It would be useful to know which specific part of the GPU is giving the extra performance required. 3d only? Or one of the other blocks? All of them? On the pi 3 it was the core_freq that most benefited emulators that were bottlenecked by the GPU. In my tests increasing the v3d_freq did not increas...

Re: DVFS Firmware

https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/config-txt/overclocking.md See v3d_freq, assuming it's actually the 3D you need to be a little bit faster, although that is unclear. Although note that hdmi_enable_4kp60=1 in config.txt will also bump the some stuff in the GPU to 600. Not sure...

Re: How to setup Minecraft 1.12.2 on Pi3 or Pi4

It would be great if you could take the initiative to fix all these issues. Using pi instead of $USER or $HOME has long been bothersome, as is the lack of set -e that allows things to run through when things fail from the start. I have added the -e Thanks for your help on the guide. I followed the ...

Re: Independent Sound HDMI0 and HDMI1

As to why this driver has two ways to configure stuff, I have no idea! A quick poke in the git history reveals that it was upstream that mangled this and added the module parameters. We could change the defaults, but that will break some userland handling of audio devices (Raspbian's volume plugin ...
