Re: Raspberry Pi 4 as a NAS or personal cloud server?

A lot will depend on your use case. I’ve run a NAS on a Pi 3B+ happily to slow HDD and even run SAMBA on Pi Zero W boxes for development and small transfers but my main NAS is a beefy Synology due to the file sizes and number of them in an upload / move. My wife is worse than I as she can generate ...

Raspberry Pi 4 as a NAS or personal cloud server?

In the past there have been some issues with Pi as a NAS. Thinking of the slow nic/usb sharing the same usb bus, and the max bus speed of the USB 2 ports. To make things worse nic and usb was on the same bus. Result, slow IO. This seems to have changed with the Pi 4. Fast nic 1GB and new USB 3 ports...

Re: Pi 4 B as a DAW? Digital audio workstation?

Every enthusiast busy building their Raspberry Pi 4? Seems very quiet on this forum, don't know if that is because of the DAW thread is kind of a project suited for a very tiny user base or more of a general point to the overall activity on this forum? Anyway I am still waiting for responses to a fe...

Re: Pi 4 B as a DAW? Digital audio workstation?

Btw if I SSH into the Pi 4 from say the smartphone, and Pi is connected to Telly via HDMI is there a way to have desktops displayed on both screens at the same time? If I hit record on the remote desktop on the phone, will the Pi be able to display the tracks as recordings starts? A visual cue as we...

Re: Pi 4 B as a DAW? Digital audio workstation?

Shoot. Seems PI4 is still sold out everywhere for the 4GB ram version. Wonder how long it takes for a new batch or if anyone shop have some pre order system so that I can secure my lot already for the next batch?

Re: Pi 4 B as a DAW? Digital audio workstation?

@MikeDB @K-pi thank you for your input. So it seems Raspberry Pi 4 will do the trick. I just checked and the 4GB version is sold out already. As soon as it is back in stock I will order one and start putting this together. Meanwhile I can read a bit more about both what usb soundcard/interface to ch...

Re: Pi 4 B as a DAW? Digital audio workstation?

Have anyone made a DAW using Pi? IF so what software did you choose and how did that software work? I really don't have any idea of what kind of cpu power such software needs, and if it is at all possible to run Pi 4 as a DAW.

What do you think, Pi DAW doable or not?

Re: Pi 4 B as a DAW? Digital audio workstation?

Do you remember what CPU you got in that laptop? Did audacity run smooth and without hick ups? For the most part this is not gonna be a DAW I will use for extensive mixing with track upon tracks. I will put down guitar, maybe both lead and rhythm guitar, vocal and might double up on the vocal track ...

Re: Pi 4 B as a DAW? Digital audio workstation?

I found a video of one man installing reaper daw onto pi 3. But sadly he didn't follow up like he promised with a part 2 version showing how the Pi Daw worked as a recording device. And the install part I was not worried about so that video didn't help me much. Also reaper is not open source and I w...

Pi 4 as a DAW? For recording instruments and vocals

Just saw the new Pi 4. And I am looking for a cheap and affordable way to record guitar and vocal. When I saw the Pi 4 I thought that might work? I don't have any monitors at home, but I do have a large LCD 4K TV I could use for display. I've used cubase and Pro Tools a little bit before. But those ...
