Alternatively, to enable i2c0 (the Hat ID EEPROM bus), you can simply enable it on the command line with:

sudo dtoverlay i2c0
The advantage of this is that you don't have to change the config.txt file and next time you boot, it is gone.

DO NOT DO THIS! Update: I must have been on crack when I wrote this. I found out that all I needed to do was add the following line to the /boot/config.txt file: dtoverlay=i2c0 It worked perfectly well.
