Re: How do you remove password-less sudo from PI installation

Do you want to remove just the "passwordless" part of sudo, or remove sudo? Either way you will also need to add a root password, which I suspect you already know.

I use one of these, probably available more cheaply elsewhere https://www.amazon.co.uk/Integral-AMINCRSD-Digital-Frustration-Free-Packaging/dp/B0047T6XWY I have had great success with the adaptors that are often bundled with SanDisk and Samsung cards. Re: Raspberry Pi root password?

Root is password less in a default install. The assumption is you will use sudo for root stuff. Some folks (me included) think that having no root password and using passwordless sudo, is broken and wrong, and thus disable passwordless sudo, and set a root password. I do concede that that setup is s...

Re: taskbar missing for root

Seriously, the desktop is not designed to run as root. If you're starting programming, you absolutely don't want to run as root. This is the helpful answer. You might not like it, but it's how things are set up. To clarify, the default setup of RPiOS with Desktop (using LXDE) is not setup to run wi...

Re: Disconnect when connecting USB while using an external disk

Thanks bjtheone - I wish I could say the same but not my experience. To clarify I have had no random disconnects, only when plugging or unplugging the USB device. My SSD is SanDisk SSD Plus 240GByte., Eluteng USB/SATA i/f and PI4 4G Rev1.1 . I too will try another powered hub. What happens? Do you ...

Re: Raspberry Pi only for "FUN" ?

I heard that Raspberry PI might have a problem with two HDD connected but never heard about my scenario (single drive ). For me it's very strange situation that Raspberry Pi might have a problem with single external HDD connected. Really ? I don't get it. Totally depends on power consumption, not n...

Re: How viable is RPI 4B as a home PC?

Not good with printers. 3 out of 5 individuals I know who recently tried switching from Wintel to Pi gave it up for that reason and the other 2, like me, go back to their old PC to do photos, coupons, and labels. Many printers have good "out of the box" Linux support. I have Samsung, HP a...

Re: Pi 4B Broken Component - Advice please?

Will the board boot, with it removed? There is a good chance it is a filter cap and that the Pi will function, with a slightly reduced noise margins. Depending on how conservative the electrical design is, there is a good chance it will continue to work. You can remove the copper pad and rework the ...

Last night there was a power outage that probably killed my sdcard . When plugged it pops it displays "Failed to open device: 'sdcard' (cmd 333a0010 status 1fff0206) . I tried reformatting but it acts like it doesn't even exist on my pc. Other sdcards work just fine on my pc and rpi4 but my ma...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4B shutsdown automatically when HDMI is unlugged

It might be a Lineage OS issue, or some sort of grounding issue. I run RPiOS Lite with Mate on a 4B 8GB and RPiOS Desktop on a 4B 4GB. Both boot headless without issue and have no problems with HDMI disconnects and reconnects when running. I often swap HDMI connections around, since I only have 1 la...

I also run a couple of 4B's (4GB & 8GB) as desktop computers. Mine is used for lots of different things with a web browser (typically with 6-10 tabs open, 3 of which dynamically refresh and are moderate complexity), calibre, xchat open all the time, plus a couple of terminals, and usually a mult...

Re: Porting old Pi3 distribution to pi4.

Of course you can run old supported OS releases on your hardware. That is EXACTLY the point, they were supported releases. Jessie and Stretch never supported Pi 4B hardware and never will. Try running Windows 3.1 (with the original device drivers) on your new PC and report back how that goes. Conve...

Re: Porting old Pi3 distribution to pi4.

Just repeating the official documentation: you need a newer release is not helping. Of course the foundation cannot spend too much trouble maintaining the old releases of the OS. So instead of back-porting whatever was necessary to make buster work on pi4, they just say: not supported you're on you...

So far, I have the following: 1) The main Pi is connected directly to another Pi via UART 2) The main Pi can wirelessly control another Pi's GPIO using WiFi (gpiozero library) For the thir...

You can put everything on one SSD, or multiple. You also could keep the OS on the SD, with a readonly overlay filesystem and put all your data on the SSD. The only advantage of separating the OS and Data on separate partitions on the same device, is that certain opps events on the OS side will not p...

I have a 4B that runs the OS and data off a SSD, that is directly connected to a USB3 port. I have a powered USB3 hub connected to the other USB3 port. The Pi is powered by an official Pi P/S. First off we need some background information: what Pi, what OS, and any configuration changes you have made. Next up some details about the actual storage devices would be helpful. Then we need information on how are you mounting these? With a default config and the current RPiOS, USB based storage...

All very true. However if a new memory device fails verification after being written to (flashed) once it is very suspect and would never go into a system I want to put any trust in. If it can't even do that how do I know it will even save that first program I spend hours developing before I get to...

Having read the rant before its removal, I can see the point there was an attempt to make. Unfortunately, by going so far over the top, the poster diluted their own point. Language sensitivity does seem to have grown to be a major issue in recent years. In many cases, this can be justified as a rea...
