Re: Connect 2 RPi using Ethernet

Rpi ethernet ports are Auto MDI-X so a crossover cable is not required. Also, I believe this is the case: "Gigabit and faster Ethernet links over twisted pair cable use all four cable pairs for simultaneous transmission in both directions. For this reason, there are no dedicated transmit and receive...

Re: Connect 2 RPi using Ethernet

A bit more info... The problem is that the home/pi/.config/autostart.xxx. desktop file that I created on one of the RPis would not start my python script unless connected to a switch (???). I added the folders home/pi/.config/lxsession/LXDE-pi and added an autostart there. Now the script runs at sta...

Connect 2 RPi using Ethernet

Hello, I have 2 RPis that communicate using UDP sockets. Both are configured with static IP addresses. If I boot the 2 RPis while they are connected to an Ethernet switch, not connected to a network, all works as expected. If fact, I can disconnect the switch, connect the 2 Ethernet ports directly a...

Re: STICKY: TUTORIAL: Build the #1 Image Viewer – Automatically in 3 Minutes!

OK, I can report that all is working as expected. About two weeks ago I added a RAM disk as the destination folder on the RPi. I only created one. For sake of complete disclosure I believe that the "partial image" displays that I was seeing were due to my export scheme. There were two different scre...

Re: STICKY: TUTORIAL: Build the #1 Image Viewer – Automatically in 3 Minutes!

Once again thanks for the detailed information. I set up a Samba server on the Rpi and I'm sharing a folder. I will need to see if I need to configure the share differently if I'm using a RAM drive. I want to try that as a next step. The Filemaker script allows me to export to any local or network l...

Re: STICKY: TUTORIAL: Build the #1 Image Viewer – Automatically in 3 Minutes!

Well, I have no options as Filemaker will not run on a Raspberry Pi system. The script that exports the image file is a Filemaker script.

Re: STICKY: TUTORIAL: Build the #1 Image Viewer – Automatically in 3 Minutes!

Thanks again for the detailed response. What I was hoping for was that there might be a log file or files associated with FEH that would help in the debugging process. I believe the problem was due to a change I made in my Filemaker script and not in your code. I'm testing that now. I guess I should...

Re: STICKY: TUTORIAL: Build the #1 Image Viewer – Automatically in 3 Minutes!

Hi Mike, I do want to thank you for taking time to provide such a detailed explanation and solution to the image display issue. I actually did not see it until earlier this week. I had some other projects which have been higher priority and no one has been complaining about the "half screen" problem...

Re: STICKY: TUTORIAL: Build the #1 Image Viewer – Automatically in 3 Minutes!

This is really not a reply but here goes... I have had this up and running for a while, working well, and just recently I'm seeing a failure. To refresh, there is only one .jpg in the folder that fehshow is pulling from. What is happening is that the application quits and exits to the desktop. What ...

Re: STICKY: TUTORIAL: Build the #1 Image Viewer – Automatically in 3 Minutes!

This may not be a question you can answer but here goes...

A few times the bottom half of the display changes to all gray. The top of the image is normal.

Any ideas?

Re: TUTORIAL: Build the #1 Image Viewer – Automatically in 3 Minutes!

Thanks for the detailed explanation. The reason I edited my post is that I came up with the same solution. I did not have any "sleep" entry but it may be wise to add one.

Thanks again for all the time you have put into this!

Re: TUTORIAL: Build the #1 Image Viewer – Automatically in 3 Minutes!

Just to elaborate a bit, I am exporting a jpg file of a screenshot of a FileMaker database layout to a folder on the RPi. The file name does not change, so yes, I am overwriting the existing file. The export occurs periodically as set by a parameter in a script. The RPi is connected to a large displ...

Re: TUTORIAL: Build the #1 Image Viewer – Automatically in 3 Minutes!

I need to be able to update a jpg image periodically and have the new image displayed.

Is that possible without restarting fehshow?
