Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

I noticed that currently raspberry pi's do not have swap space by defualt. I wonder if is this a sane configuration for raspberry pi's 512. I understand that adding swap will be slow, due to low read/write speed on SDCards, but is this recommended? I think it's a tidy bit dangerous situation to hav...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Hello, It's been a while since I played around with Screenly. I'm trying to re-install OSE version on a RPi model B. The instructions say: Configure boot behavior to boot into X (required) In order to enable that option in Jessie Lite I need to install lightdm , is that correct or am I missing somet...

Re: install rails gem

Hello,

Remove ruby installation from you RPi and install ruby and rails via rvm using the following command:

Code: Select all

\curl -sSL https://get.rvm.io | bash -s stable --rails
Everything should be fine.

Help to design a the HW for a prototype

I want to create a prototype using a RaspberryPi model B+. I created a list of the things I think that I'm going to need. I need the following modules connected to an RPi: 1. a camera 2. a thermal printer 3. a display 4. a button 5. an EU power adapter (5V) 1. The camera I am going to use the standa...

Re: Streaming Raspberry Pi Camera H264 into HTML over RTMP

Is there any possibility to stream H26d4 mp4 instead of FLV? I can't see the video in my iOs devices which is a major drawback :-(

Secure data integrity with RPi

Hello, I am writing a RoR application for internal office use. It will serve, at the beginning, up to 10 clients simultaneously max. The data however is sensitive. I use PostgreSQL server. What is the best way to avoid data-loss by sdcard failure since the SDHC may fail at any given time? Of course ...

Re: OpenVPN Server stopped working

Same problem here after upgrade, but here is a clear version miss-match. Theoretically re-compiling the kernel with tun/tap support would add this at kernel level avoiding headaches. Didn't try it yet but will soon and let you know.

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Hello, What is the best policy for Pi's running screenly regarding updates? I mean, do you run often sudo apt-get upgrade or no? I know the good policy should be, performing the updates on a local box first and then proceeding to production, but in my case that's impossible. So I'd like to know if a...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

I don't write code in python, but this application seems very similar to ruby's Sinatra, so it's pretty damn easy to add authentication (plaintext or sha1-ed). However, I use iptables and OpenVPN. The interface is accessible via OpenVPN only, works fine.

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Howdy, I installed Screenly last night and it looks quite interesting. I plan to show it to my local Unix Users Group. I'd like to have a large video file to demo with. After several attempt to upload the asset failed, I just used scp to copy the file to the machine. But, I have not figured out how...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Ok, so I had the same issue happen again - screen was black the next morning. After looking at the log file, the log started at 13:26 and ended at 19:45 on Wed, May 2013. The log simply shows "Showing asset XXXXXX up until the last entry. I rotated between a PNG, the screenly logo, an internal comp...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Hello, I have upgraded my screenly-OSE installation to the latest version. I would like to share some notes in order to get feedback. The new UI is pretty neat (javascript if I'm not mistaken, didn't look at the code yet), but it's rather slow after loading 45 videos/images. So my notes so far: 1 - ...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

I got screenly OSE working excellently. No issues at all. I could display images (1920x1080), web pages (limited to uzbl ) and mp4 video via my nginx web server. Ideally if we need to use it as an EFFECTIVE digital signage product, then it must have a ticker/SCROLL text feature. This can be accompl...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

I have a problem with videos, when I'm playing MP4 files from command line, everything is fine, but when I add them to screenly it doesn't display them. Any ideas why this happens? Sounds odd. Check the log-files in /tmp. In theory, if you are able to play it with OMXPlayer on the Pi, it should wor...

Re: Samsung Screen Resolution Problems [newbe]

I have a sort of 'tip'. Videos no matter how I change the resolution using ffmpeg, always display the picture bigger then the screen.

The images though, if I use a resolution of 1200x680 they fit pefectly.

Hello, I have a Samsung 32" LE32R71W , trying to set-it-up with screenly . Re: Should we make a wiki page for overscan settings?

Hello, I'm getting paranoid with Samsung 32" model LE32R71. The cli commands tell me that the optimal configuration is: sdtv_mode=2 # Normal PAL sdtv_aspect=3 # Sets to 16:9 hdmi_group=1 # (CEA) hdmi_mode=4 # Found through editparser hdmi_drive=2 # But no sound, although it's supported The mode (4) ...
