Re: Higher megapixel camera module?

The basic problem with googling for answers is that these days in general there are a great many blogs and websites out there with self-elected "experts" who often have their facts and even basic definitions wrong and are vague and inarticulate and they leave out key information. Whether t...

My RetroPi in modded acrylic case. Note the fan is not connected to the GPIO headers
That looks similar to what I ordered but mine will use GPIO:

Our current camera is the 8MP IMX219, we do not sell any others.
What kind of data bus is it going to the camera? I wonder because it occurs to me that for some AI projects, people may want stereo vision and two camera modules.

Re: Pi 4 questions

To answer, the databus to the Ram and the controller itself are limited to 1Gb. It would require a new controller to increase memory. There's another reason that escapes me. As for two chips, the associated circuitry to deal with two chips and plug them together is prohibitive. Notwithstanding the ...

Pi 4 questions

I find the Pi3B+ to be quite good, especially when running a 64-bit OS like the one from sakaki. That said any piece of technology has room for improvement. Question 1: What about the SoC prevents the use of external RAM? Even slow external RAM would be faster than paging. Question 2: Would it be fe...

Re: Headless Pi 3A+ questions

I also have a 3A+ running headless running Motion Eye OS. It seems to be up to the task. I have two more 3A+'s on the way to setup as two more WIFI cameras. Why do you need 3 such cameras in Nova Scotia? Is there a zombie apocalypse happening I wasn't aware of? I watched the Us movie yesterday so t...

Can the Pi 3B+ power a USB hard drive?

Hi all,
I have a portable USB 2TB drive made by Seagate and I have no idea how much current it draws.
But it works fine when powered by a laptop.
Is the Pi likely to be able to power it as well?
I have a 2.5A AC adapter for the Pi.
Thanks.

I see from the specs that this sensor can shoot up to 180 fps. Does the pi also support that?

Have you checked the RAM specification of the Pi3A+ (512MB last time I looked)?
Yes I was considering it only because the local shop has it, and it has one USB port.

I found another shop that had the 3B+ though so I bought that. It's kind of amazing.

Overheating in official Rpi white/red case

Hi folks I need to select a case, and I observe there are many that include a heatsink and even a fan. The official Rpi white/red case does not. Is there any real risk of the Rpi 3B+ overheating when used in the official case? Which is better: A closed aluminum case or a plastic case with a fan? Tha...

Higher megapixel camera module?

I'm curious if anyone knows of a better camera module than the current 8MP unit.
While it is fine for hobby purposes like robotics and AI, it might also be nice to have one that is OK for basic small-sensor photography.
For this, more megapixels would be needed.

Raspberry Pi Touch Display PWM?

Hi all,

Does anyone know if the 7" Raspberry Pi Touch Display
A) Has brightness control
B) Uses PWM for that.

I ask because PWM uses causes tinnitus for me if the frequency is less than 13kHz or so.

Thanks.

Re: Headless Pi 3A+ questions

If you want to conserve power, why not use a Pi Zero W? I like the π0W but, 512MB seems like too little RAM. For instance, what if I want to try installing Gentoo, which compiles every package during installation? Or even crazier, if I try to compile the Swift compiler, this will require paging for...

Re: Headless Pi 3A+ questions

The reason creating a wpa_supplicant file isn't essential is because you could connect the Pi3A+ to a USB to Ethernet adapter and do it all over a wired network. I must admit, the more I learn about the growing body of evidence that Wifi and mobile phones cause cancer, the more I want to go wired.

For future reference, be advised that very few powerbanks are capable of being charged and supplying power simultaneously.

Re: Pi Zero camera case, for use in a car

The thing to watch is that sometimes those sockets turn off while the engine is being started or when the key is in certain positions and you don't want the Pi to suddenly lose power without shutting down cleanly first. Yes, that is why I was contemplating the Anker power bank to serve as a kind of...

Pi Zero camera case, for use in a car

Hi all, The Pi Zero camera case looks compelling, especially because it comes with the 8MP camera. I have a question though. Let's say I want to transform this into a "dash cam"... albeit a very conspicuous white-and-red one unless I were to paint it black. Has anyone here used the power o...

I'm considering the Pi 3A+ because my local store has it. I just want to check some of my beliefs to make sure I can use this in a headless fashion. 1.
