Re: RPI Model B - komme nur bis zum Splashscreen

Hallöchen,

bei eLinux gibt es eine Tabelle mit getesteten SD-Karten. Vielleicht hilft die bei der nächsten Anschaffung :)

Re: "Please slow down, you are posting to [sic] fast!"

Hello,

I also think that the comments facility still has some issues since I needed four tries to comment on the bear-thing.

BTW: Why is my comment "awaiting moderation"? Seems like anyone else can post straight away. Is it because I used tags?

My bad, I thought the answer of Joe was by the OP and he's using some kind of ActiveX eyecandy stuff for his OCR tool.

Re: Can i run a .exe file in linux in my raspberry pf?

Hi there,

I think OCR is not what is meant here. A .ocx file is an OLE custom controls set. It's basically describing ActiveX control elements.

Have a look here: http://www.fileinfo.com/extension/ocx

No ActiveX in Linux, so those won't work I think.

edit: beaten by ghans ;) Hi vish, to run Windows executables you need WINE, which emulates a Windows environment on a Linux System. According to this: http://wiki.winehq.org/ARM there's an ARM version, but I never did what you are planning to do, so I can't tell you if it supports the Pi's ARM chip ...

Re: Access remotely to my Pi from Windows PC

Hi there, Would install Ubuntu manually, activating the team viewer and then install Xbmc be the unique solution? I am afraid there is no Ubuntu release for the Pi. Ubuntu doesn't support the Pi's ARM-Chip. But Ubuntu is based on Debian, so if you are used to Ubuntu, using the official Raspbian rele...

Hi Shut, i found out it is hard to use linux That's what most people think coming from Windows, but I think it's not difficult, just different, so you have to invest some time in the beginning. Which is the case in anything new you want to learn. Might wanna get youtube I don't quite understand that...

Re: new setup

Hi frederico, does the Pi have access to the internet AT ALL? Could you ping google.com and post the output here? If the pi can access the internet and name resolution works it will translate "google.com" into an IP address and start to ping it. I still can't make head or tails of your network setup...

Hi leeroy,

to avoid power issues with the hub I recommend a self-powered one. Besides that everything should work fine.

Re: VNC - Not an easy setup for me!

Hello TerrorByte,

I think you might have to substitute the "twm &" part with whatever window manager Kali uses (never used Kali to be honest).

Some examples:

gnome-session &
fluxbox &
blackbox &
openbox &
startkde &
commonbox &
enlightenment &
windowmaker &

Re: VNC - Not an easy setup for me!

Hi TerrorByte,

did you tell vnc to launch your desktop environment on startup in the xstartup-file? It's located in your home directory in the folder ".vnc".

By default it will display twm, a lightweight display manager.

Re: Can't get access to Samba share from windows 7.

Hey darragh, As you can see in the "ls -al" output for "/mnt", the "disk1" folder is owned by root. The root account can read, write and open it. All others can only read and open it, but not write to it. You could either change the owner of the folder to pi with the "chown" command or adjust the ac...

Re: Can't get access to Samba share from windows 7.

Hi darragh, not quite sure about the error message... looking at your "ls -al /mnt" output I see that /mnt/disk1 is owned by root and that anyone else can read from it, but not write to it. So you should at least see it I guess. Did you add the user in the smbpasswd-file like so sudo smbpasswd -a <u...

Re: Can't get access to Samba share from windows 7.

Hi darragh,

do you have "hosts allow=" in your config? If so, did you allow the machine you tried to connect from?

If that does not do the trick, can you post the output of

Code: Select all

ls -al /mnt

Re: using a pi for camera

Hi freerpg, Rattus is absolutely right. Maybe it would be rewarding to wait for the "official" Pi camera module. If you want to get that endoscope camera up and running nonetheless, it is quite hard to guess wether it will work out-of-the-box or what steps will be necessary to make it run. It seems ...

Hi duberry,

of course you are right. The interpretation of JS is part of the engine. I answered in a rush and got mixed up with Java, which is listed among my browser plugins.

Thanks for clearing that up!

Re: Quick Simple Questions

Hi Ven, to autologin you have to manipulate the inittab file. You can read up on the steps here: http://raspbot.wordpress.com/2012/07/21/setting-up-auto-login-3/ . Regarding security that's a rather risky setup, so I hope you consiedered all implications here. To make an application start at bootup,...

Re: Using Pi as a webserver, install Javascript?

Hi Carpet,

I also think that you do not have to install anything on the Pi. But you should check the setup on the machine you are testing from.

When you put javascript on a webpage, the stuff between <script></script> is interpreted by the javascript plugin in your browser.

Re: new setup

Hi frederico,

did you manipulate the sources.list file? Because I tried to resolve http://mirrordirector.raspian.org myself and failed and then realized, that there seems to be a typo in the address. I'm pretty sure the distro is called "raspBian" and not "raspian".

Re: Large number of connections

Hi atomic,

additionally, you can control which connections the Pi does and does not accept by using iptables. There are many howto's on the net. But take care that you do not lock yourself out.

Hi Schwabinger,

du musst den verwendeten Zeichensatz in MPD noch auf UTF-8 ändern.

Schau' mal hier rein: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=837668

Bezieht sich zwar auf Ubuntu und das genannte Problem ist etwas anders gelagert, aber vielleicht hilft's.
