Re: "Full Pi experience" with headless Pi?

You stated in original post the TV/Monitor had a spare input, therefore you would only need to use a USB KVM for the keyboad and mouse Thanks for the suggestion. I had thought that such a cheap KVM switch might not work without video connected. wifi is slower and more prone to problems a switch wil...

Re: "Full Pi experience" with headless Pi?

I've thought about a KVM switch, but that would be a significant investment because I'd need one that can handle DVI, not just VGA. We'll go the RemoteDesktop route first, being well aware of its limitations. We'll reconsider our options as we go along. Thanks for all your input, I'll let you know h...

Re: "Full Pi experience" with headless Pi?

Thanks for pointing out the significant loss of graphics performance over RDP, I wasn't aware that the impact might be so relevant. I use RDP for office/admin stuff at work all the time, where this doesn't matter. Synergy + direct HDMI connection seem like the way to go then. Is there significant la...

Re: "Full Pi experience" with headless Pi?

Thanks for the quick reply, sounds easy enough.

Just for my understanding: With RemoteDesktop, the Pi will utilize its own graphics resources, so I have to allocate memory accordingly?

"Full Pi experience" with headless Pi?

Hello Forum, my son wants to start playing around with the Pi, but has no room on his desk for an extra keyboard/mouse for this. Plugging in and out repeatedly is not an option. What is the best solution to get the "Full Pi experience" (graphic desktop and all) accessed from his Win-PC? I know there...

Re: TUTORIAL: How to get Minecraft Pi edition working!

Hi Minecrafters, my son is an avid MC player on his Windows PC, and I'd like to point his attention to the MC Pi ed. to maybe spawn some interest in programming. Before even trying, I have a few questions: - Would MC Pi ed. run on a headless Pi, having XMing on his PC? - Since the Pi ed. is such an ...

Re: Call for beta testers: FIQ_FSM USB driver rewrite

Dear USB Driver developers, a success story: after 4 weeks of stable operation, I am now confident enough to report that my longstanding problem with using a Sundtek DVB-C stick for monitoring my DOCSIS cable internet connection has been solved. With 3.12.18+ #679 PREEMPT Thu May 1 14:40:27 BST 2014...

Re: USB redux

Of course I cannot rule out a bug in the driver, but the device is running on a lot of ARM-based devices without showing this instability. A Sundtek software developer actually installed a tracing version of the driver on my Pi a couple of months ago and confirmed a problem where data stop flowing f...

No improvement with the FIQ_FSM. After running smoothly for a couple of days, the USB device driver just crashed again. Nothing in "dmesg" or other files in /var/log, I don't have a serial console available. What info could I post to help trace the problem? root@raspi:/home/sundtek/kdg# lsusb Bus 00...

Is the new USB code only in the "next" branch, or also in the "master" branch? On the github page, both show "linux: usb: testing branch with fiq_fsm rewrite " from 5 days ago.

Hi gsh and other USB experts, is the USB interface on the Pi still being acitvely worked on, or have improvements come to an end? Re: apt-get upgrade broke on kernel-update

I don't remember the steps I took to recover from this situation, but I managed to fix the dpkg/apt issue, at least for some time. At some point I found out that my SD-card was corrupted and I reinstalled cleanly onto a new card.

If you already have the latest firmware (which has a lot of USB fixes) Which firmware version do you mean? Is it in the Raspbian repository or only accessible via rpi-update? I ran rpi-update yesterday and now have "Linux raspi 3.10.23+ #608 PREEMPT Mon Dec 9 21:11:23 GMT 2013 armv6l GNU/Linux". I'...

Re: USB redux

I'm using a "Sundtek MediaTV Home" USB DVB-T/C Receiver to monitor the bandwidth usage of my cable internet. It is attached to a powered 7-port hub and operated in "bulk" mode (as opposed to isochronous), which is recommended by Sundtek for the RPi. There is a script which polls the 8 frequencies us...

I bought a recommended 4GB Sandisk card together with mit Pi. I've been experiencing lockups and freezes of my Pi when updating with rpi-update or apt-get (for kernel updates) increasingly for a couple of months, which seem to be due to SD card corruption. I don't have a Linux PC with SD card reader...

How much of your work is coordinated with gsh's efforts? There has been very little info about the official work he is doing with USB on behalf of the Foundation.

Still repeated fails of rpi-update

Hi, since my Pi is still suffering from USB problems, I try to keep up to the latest firmware in the hope of improvement. However, rpi-update will hang on almost every other call. The new versions of rpi-update are very verbose, so I can tell what's going on. At first I get lots of messages about me...

Re: DVB-S2 PCTV 460e (tda10071) usb issues

This is Sundtek's own shop: http://sundtek.com/shop/Digital-TV-Sticks/ I have the "Media TV Digital Home", which supports DVB-T and -C. You'll need the "SkyTV Ultimate" for DVB-S/S2. There are other sources for these sticks, too. Might be worthwhile to check to save on shipping costs. A word of caut...

Re: DVB-S2 PCTV 460e (tda10071) usb issues

I may be well off track here, but my Sundtek DVB-T/C USB stick can be switched from isochronous to bulk transfer mode with a command line program. Maybe something similar is available for your device? I don't know about PCTV systems, but Sundtek's support for Linux devices is known to be very good. ...
