I know this is a little late, but I'm repeating a post that I started here years ago. Anyone interested in OBD I or II development should look into the development kit made by scantool.net https://www.scantool.net/dev-tools/development-boards/obd-development-kit.html https://www.scantool.net/media/c...

Re: OBD-II STN1110
Just curious, this is a old thread, I would like to bread board my own STN1110 and interface it with a Pi. Is there a parts list? Looks like the STN1170 would be a better choice, but look like it does not come in DIP. This thread I started at looking to make a test bed for 97 GP. Looks like my car ...

I'm getting this same exact error. Maybe it's cause we're from Phoenix? At the moment I cannot afford to start my image from scratch as I have important configurations done on it.

Re: Cellular service for the raspberry pi?
Setting up a VPN can be a pain sometimes because cell networks make you use a NAT'd IP address behind a firewall. This adpater can make setting up a cell modem a bit easier. http://cenitus.wix.com/mockup USB Cellular Modem to UART. This USB cellular modem to UART adapter allows a user to pick from o...

Re: Best way to remotely control a pi?
You can try using VPN ie PPTP to tunntel though to a server, then you can host anything you want on the PI to the server as if you were on the same network. http://cenitus.wix.com/mockup USB Cellular Modem to UART. USB Cellular Modem to UART and Ethernet adapter coming soon!
So for a few months me and another engineer have been working on a USB Cellular Modem to UART adapter. The prototype works! You will be able to just plug in your modem, do a simple setup over CLI or terminal, and connect your MCU or raspberry PI to the internet. Just imagine connecting the CSI cam w...

havent raffled the board yet, but my boss and I were thinking of salvaging some of the Rev A boards that just have some minor cosmetic issues. There are 3 of them, so I may be able to build them and just send them off
PM me with your email address.

Re: Dedicated RPi battery in-car
Hey Mike, A few thoughts of mine are some questions. Depending on how the circuit and system is designed, an RPI with OBD, and a 3G dongle can last weeks on a car battery depending on how the circuit is designed. I.E. sleep mode and wake up. Is the device going to be always recording something witho...
Re: Micro Pi
After looking at the schematics here: http://www.raspberrypi.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Raspberry-Pi-Schematics-R1.0.pdf It is now a quest of mine to publish the board layout of a miniature version :P Though I can't find a foot print on the BCM2835 :( I'll try to find out which package its in or...
Re: Micro Pi
Wasn't there a concept of a thumb drive sized raspberry pi? If I obtained the schematics of the pi, I bet i could make a mini version like what you are talking about. If schematics are not available, perhaps it can be reverse engineered maybe. Also I happen to have a development kit for OBD that rea...

If you wanna play around with OBD, you should check out the development board for the STN1170 chip. Would be interesting seeing some development combining this with the RPI. I'm trying to give some out for free PM so me with email and I'll see about it. Here is what the development board looks like....

Here is an update on the development board for the STN1170 chip. It supports Medium Speed CAN, J1850 PWM, J1850 VPW, ISO, High Speed CAN, and Single Wire CAN. I'm thinking of holding some sort of raffle for the first couple boards that pass QA. If anyone is interested just PM your email and I'll put...

I think it would have to be a VOIP phone using a 3G/4G dongle for the internet connection. Not a bad idea IMO.

mjpeg is very choppy hehe. I used a logitech C920 camera with h.264 hardware encoding. You'll have to update your kernel to 3.2 to get it to recognize h.264. I already have a streaming solution using RTP, but I need to make my directions more readable. I will post the solution soon.

Here are the eagle files I've created based off the reference schematic in the STN1170 datasheet. There is a bit of difference because this is a standalone 44-PIN PDIP module. Meaning you can leave the pins connected or unconnected and it doesn't matter if the pins are open drain or not. You will be...
