You should be able to plug that into either usb or power ports on a RPi 0 if you have a male USB to either a USB device, hub, or to a power cable. I have something similar.

As for C vs Python I would ask in the General programming discussion topic, but have you tried running the following?

python /home/pi/example.py &

Simply put it in /etc/rc.local and your python file should run on boot.

What is the capacity of your SD card? If it is too small (less than 8 GB) you should flash your OS on a larger SD card.

You can also try: sudo apt-get autoclean

The display only turns on and works with Raspbian and not any of the other OSes I have tried. All I changed between OSes is the flashed micro SD card.

Official RPI 7" touchscreen display support for community Operating Systems

The official 7" touchscreen only seems to work with raspbian. How can I use the display with android, RetroPie, or other OSes?
