I think you have to set write permissions to the ext4 disk. You can do this with the following command:

sudo chmod -R 777 "disk_path"

Besides the solution with the installation of xterm. Another way to fix the problem is
to uninstall and install again, lxterminal package: lxterminal-0.3.0-2+rpi1 .

Check if xterm package exists. Run dpkg -l | grep xterm and see if you get any output. If xterm package does not exist , install it sudo apt install xterm The results from the command ii lxterminal 0.3.0-2+rpi1 armhf LXDE terminal emulator I install xterm and scripts are working again.
