I was thinking you have a pc sitting on your desk tap a spare molex plug from inside tap it to the outside of the case have some small crossover to knock the 5v down to the 3.whatever V the RPi needs and your on if you are running the pi on ssh anyways. You are right, that is a overkill!

Just remembered to use one for the inicial testings of the Pi because a have lots of them at home... After the testings i will surelly use a phone charger. There is no need to consume all that power with the PSU.
