Re: Heatsink placement on 3B+

You're welcome to come to Not-old Zealand (AKA NZ) as long as you bring your Raspberry Pis and associated skills and helpfulness, Emma. I think all those things should fit into your carry on luggage. Do we have a deal?

Re: Heatsink placement on 3B+

Thanks again Emma. I scratched the copper shim and the larger copper heatsink with a file, and it doesn't seem to be just a plating. Does anyone have any idea why the shim is quite a lot more yellowish than the larger copper heatsink? They are both advertised as being copper in the eBay ad (not that...

Re: Heatsink placement on 3B+

Thanks LTolledo and jbudd. And thanks again Emma! Some points on what you wrote, Emma: "Yes, it does. Copper is almost twice as good at removing heat compared to aluminum." Do you think the eBay ad is intending buyers to put the 12x12mm copper shim under the 7x9mm aluminium heatsink? I was thinking ...

Re: Heatsink placement on 3B+

Thanks for all your comments and advice, and sorry for the delay in responding. I know the advice which comes with the Pi says to have it in open air, but I move it around the house, so in an attempt to protect it from static and physical damage, I put it in a small plastic bottle with one end open ...

Heatsink placement on 3B+

Hi Pi experts, I recently bought this set of 3 heatsinks from eBay. See pictures with dimensions, about half way down the eBay webpage, and more details just below that. What's the best placement for them on the Pi 3B+, and why? I've seen some installation configuration recommendations, but not for ...

Re: Webserver LAMP (Perl) Errors

Thanks Dougie,
I'd basically done those two tests already and they were successful so does that mean that I don't need to install either of these?:

Re: Webserver LAMP (Perl) Errors

Thanks again for that, Dougie. I've never seen the need to have the shebang line at the top of PHP scripts before, or execute access, but I guess I could work with that, though it might be a pain in some situations (e.g. if I have a huge application like WordPress which needs those changes on all it...

Re: Cannot login to my pi via Putty...

Technically, yes I do mean that Dirks, although I had hoped it was obvious, and just added the spaces for clarity, but it may not be obvious to some, and my "clarity" could backfire, so good point.
Thanks.

Re: Cannot login to my pi via Putty...

Hi viral, Please humour me by trying this: - Connect directly to your Pi - Start Terminal - Type: passwd <Enter> - Type: raspberry <Enter> - Paste what comes up into your next post. - After that, if you are not back to the command prompt, you should be able to get there by pressing Ctrl-D a couple o...

Re: Webserver LAMP (Perl) Errors

Thank you both for taking the time to read my issue and respond. @Andy, Thanks very much for that link. Unfortunately when I got to the "/etc/init.d/perl-fcgi start" step, I ran into the same problem, i.e. "This account is currently not available.". I temporarily worked around it by changing the www...

Webserver LAMP (Perl) Errors

Hi Pi experts, Last month I bought a Raspberry Pi 3 B+, put NOOBS_v2_8_2 on it and installed Raspbian (not Lite). I’m wanting to try using it as a local webserver, so I presume I have to put some kind of LAMP on it, and I need the “P” to be Perl. (I don’t need PHP yet, but might want it someday.) Th...
