Re: Confused on mixing pi hole and openvpn

Been a bit busy but want to fix this, I followed a guide but got confused/stuck near the end. Now I have installed OpenVPN and Pi-Hole I have got to the point where it asks to add client. I am confused as I just want to use the Pi for everything and just add the username and password, so how do I do...

Re: Confused on mixing pi hole and openvpn

I would assume so, it did have a help page for the pi but it just assumes you have VPN only on it

Re: Confused on mixing pi hole and openvpn

Well, the DNS side was that I can't change on router direct, and the built in ones are awful so youtube and such crashes (not a pc issue happens on many things, also lived elsewhere and had same isp and same problems) the problem disappears when I use pi hole, on same pi I have it set up as a nas. V...

Confused on mixing pi hole and openvpn

Ok so I currently have pi hole for dns usage as my router has hardlocked settings for it, and I also use the same pi for a NAS, I have been debating getting a VPN for ages and finally got round to it, problem is many guides I have confuse me as they mostly show how to install just a VPN and not mixi...

Setting up dns server and usb sharing on pi 4?

I only a few weeks back set up on a pi3, just a simple way of having a usb hard drive connected to a pi and using it to read comics/books listen to music or watch videos etc. Is the Pi4 way of doing it pretty much the same just with the newer o/s? Either way a guide would be good as last time I did ...

Re: another pi4 power supply query

Well one of my multi chargers can charge a gpd win 2 which is a powerful machine so I assume this is fine. I am not sure the spec of the other multi chargers I have but they aren't normal usb spec. they are power blocks that you put a cable into

Re: Good setup for a NAS and other things

Thanks, it was more I was worried about overwhelming the setup than buying a pi4, which I will do at some point at which point I guess just use my current 3B+ as the NAS. It partly was because my usb hard drive is usb 3 and wondered if it was worth upgrading, I don't plan to do much on it but if I d...

Good setup for a NAS and other things

Ok I had a 3B I had sitting around after an upgrade to 3B+( a week before the 4 was announced :( ) I decided to stop using my normal desktop pc I had which only ended up being used for watching movies on a SDtv, thinking a NAS setup would be good as that way each pc on network can use it. I set it u...

Re: Fan ramps up very quickly on 3B+

I live in UK too! The whole reason for the fan was originally I only had those tiny heatsinks I got in a kit and wanted better performance not to stop it overheating as much as to lower the chance it would and to make the kit last longer.

Re: Fan ramps up very quickly on 3B+

It hopefully is sorted, I took it apart one last time scraped out the few remaining scabby pieces of case where I cut out the area for fan, put another thin piece of pad on top, also noticed the screw holding the lid on of case wasn't tighened. Now seems near perfect, still faintest sound if the pi ...

Re: Fan ramps up very quickly on 3B+

Had another go last night, without the case on the pi sounds much quieter but hard to tell if its noisier than the other, I did try it in other room and the noise was a little quieter (thinking surface affected it too) and much quieter when upside down, in this case the fan is on the base inside. I ...

Re: Fan ramps up very quickly on 3B+

Interesting thanks, I do prefer paste myself but as the pi goes in upside down in this case the fan/heatsink just falls off even with thick paste (I use either MX-4 ior arctic silver) That fan is a possibility im not sure if it will fit in case though if it does then its the best solution. Either wa...

Re: Fan ramps up very quickly on 3B+

Interesting good to know thanks. Well its a Megapi case, pi is connected (though) I used a knife to scrape off the built in fan casing to a dualfan. The strange thing though is I have a identical setup which even though it ramps up its far quiter. So is it like my initial thought and maybe its the f...

Re: Fan ramps up very quickly on 3B+

I have tried outside of the case with the fan head connected directly to the pi board, and in a case connected to the headers on the case. Haven't checked the temps as I didn't have the sd card in at first, when I put it in I left it at desktop left it a few minutes and its the same, it doesn't cras...

Fan ramps up very quickly on 3B+

I have 3x units, one is a 3B and 2x 3B+ all in megapi cases, the 3B and one of the + have no issues I thought at first the issue was the one that was very noisy had thermal paste on so I replaced it with tape. still issues so replaced it with thin pads still same though the excess vibration noise we...

Re: Usuable for a basic media system?

Apologies for late reply, thanks for advice. Well it was multiple reasons for wanting to use this. My dad at home uses a email client for his work at home to access, he currently when travelling doesn't use that and checks regular emails. Also my mum can use a phone for Facebook, but doesn't like ty...

Usuable for a basic media system?

I have a pi 3b I recently upgraded to the + so was going to give this one to parents for Christmas present as they do certain trips away and need to check emails, and watch youtube, and maybe watch media files from usb. I know directly it won't handle much Youtube wise. But would it be good for othe...
