I'm new to Raspberry Pi and I'm doing a project involving a stepper motor. What do you think is the best and easier way to use a 12v bipolar stepper motor with a RPi?

Two weeks ago I bought a Raspberry Pi B 3 and it worked fine, until today. While it was booting, the screen just went black and just the red led is on.
I've tried with another power adaptor and whith another micro sd with a different os, but it doesn't work.
Any suggestions?
I was trying to use a motor with the L298N motor driver and I found this tutorial https://projects.raspberrypi.org/en/projects/build-a-buggy/2. On my L298N a gnd connection is missing (I'm talking about the one above the IN3 connection, not the one near 12V). Can I use it anyway? Will it damage any ...
