Raspbian Stretch and support for *current* PCTV 461e DVB-S2 adaptor

I currently run TVHeadend on Raspian Stretch (3B+) with two DVB-T2 (terrestrial) adaptors. This works perfectly. It looks as if our new house won't have good terrestrial reception so I will probably need a DVB-S2 (satellite) adaptor - or several of them. I've seen conflicting advice about the PCTV 4...

Re: Win 32 disk imager

That (SDCardCopier) might meet some of your needs ? It isn't clear what the posters who have resurrected this long-neglected thread hope to achieve. Hence the three provisional qualifiers in my tentative reply... I think it's fairly clear what I was trying to achieve: the ability to copy from an SD...

Re: Win 32 disk imager

Does Etcher work both ways: copying card to image file and (as you describe) image file to card? The web link that you quote doesn't mentioning copying card to image file. As far as I know etcher will only write an image on to the SD card, it will not read an SD card and create an image from it, th...

Re: Win 32 disk imager

Running on Windows 10, I had this same problem. I could not format the SD Card using SDFormatter v4 or write to the drive with Win32Diskimager... Win32DiskImager was never a very good program. But 7 years ago when this thread you necro'd was started it was all that Windows users had. Now we have Et...

Re: Win 32 disk imager

Running on Windows 10, I had this same problem. I could not format the SD Card using SDFormatter v4 or write to the drive with Win32Diskimager. I used diskpart to remove all partitions from the sdcard, and was able to format and write my image. I had the dreaded Error 5 but I saw a suggestion furth...

Re: Showing a Pi can replace a standard computer

I think the crucial sentiment that people have been using is "the Pi is good in its place, as long as you know what its limitations are". I use my Pi 3B+ for the two tasks that require a computer to be left on 24/7: for logging data from a weather station and uploading it to a web server (using Cumu...

Re: Name mangling in Samba shares - mapping the dreaded colon!

Thanks for that. I've managed to find another solution in the meantime, which prevents the Unix file containing the illegal characters in the first place. The package I'm using to generate the files and folders (a PVR package that records TV programmes) has an option that I hadn't spotted before (a ...

Name mangling in Samba shares - mapping the dreaded colon!

I'm using my Pi as a PVR for recording TV programmes. I have installed Samba to share the directory of recordings so it is accessible by a Windows PC which accesses it as \\pi\sharename\directory\filename. And I've fallen foul of the dreaded problem that Unix file and directory names can contain cha...

Re: Installation of mono-complete package caused R Pi to freeze, and now "apt" mechanism seems to be stuck in a loop

Greetings. I recently installed Mono on a Pi 3B either. I meet this issue either. However, it's not locked. Keep patient, and wait, it would done. Maybe more memory would help, so you could try "apt install" in CLI, no GUI. I decided to start again (I'd only just reinstalled the Pi when this proble...

Re: Pi was working perfectly but now boots to emergency mode

First thing to do in a LXterminal window is for i in 1 2 5 6 7; do sudo umount /dev/sda$i; sudo fsck -f -y /dev/sda$i;done It was a damn good idea. I should have thought of it: I'm used to the equivalent "dirty disk preventing boot" in Windows, where you have to use another computer to run chkdsk. ...

Re: Does the NOOBS 2.8.2.zip download include the full (not lite) Raspbian Stretch?

I believe that even if you download and run the 'Raspbian included' version of the NOOBS Installer it will still attempt to download the most recent possible version of Raspbian if you have an active Internet connection while the Installer is showing the NOOBS Recovery Console GUI interface. Withou...

Pi was working perfectly but now boots to emergency mode

My Pi 3B+ has stopped booting and eventually goes into emergency boot mode. I see the normal rows of text messages, then the screen clears and the "Welcome to Raspberry Pi" graphic appears. However no messages below-left in white appear as they normally do; the cursor remains in the bottom LHS of th...

Installation of mono-complete package caused R Pi to freeze, and now "apt" mechanism seems to be stuck in a loop

I was trying to install mono for use by a package (CumulusMX weather station software) which relies on it. I did "sudo apt-get install mono-complete". Everything started fine and I left it unattended. When I returned it had got as far as messages Setting up mono-roslyn (5.16.0.179-0xamarin1+raspbian...

Does the NOOBS 2.8.2.zip download include the full (not lite) Raspbian Stretch?

After my carefully-installed Pi suddenly decided after a couple of months of perfect service that it would now panic and core-dump whenever I reboot it, I need to reinstall from the ground up. (Unless anyone knows a way of rescuing it...). I have a download of NOOBS 2.8.2.zip. I'm sure when I instal...

TVHeadend (PVR) intermittently fails to write to designated recordings directory

I've installed TVHeadend V4.2.6-65 (PVR software that records from DVB-T/T2 USB adaptors) and mostly it works perfectly. However every now and again it fails to write to the designated folder. I've mounted a USB memory stick, formatted as exFAT, using its UUID, determined with sudo blkid and then ad...
