Re: Cannot copy SD - no "copy to " selection.

I MAY update / upgrade WHEN and IF there is an official note to solve this issue. It is annoying , but I cannot risk another failure ( recent upgrade wiped out my Internet access ) and there are workarounds to backup my RPi OS for now. As others have said; you seem to have a very broken and damaged...

Re: Raspberrypi hang on ssh or vnc on eth0 0

"ssh or vnc work fine but eth0 0 force me to disconnect the pi from wall socket."
????
Good way to corrupt your SD!

Can you get to / activate "terminal"? Use "sudo reboot / shutdown" .
Can you use hardware "reset" instead?

Better yet - describe the "hang" AND let's fix the issue first.

Re: Replacing Global Cache RS232 device with RPI and USB to RS232

Strange coincidence. I just spend few hours trying to figure out why my trusted old "USB to RS232" test tool did not work. It was given to me by somebody from UK long time ago and basically monitors RS232 signals with LED's. I use it to see if my "remote program" actually works accessing RPi. Anyway...

Re: Setting WiFi static IP

If you have access to your router, its better to have it supply a static IP to your devices, whether those are connected via Ethernet LAN cable or via WiFi. and just leave the network settings on all your devices to get IP automatically via DHCP. +1 Use your router to map MAC to a static IP address...

My question is - what is the purpose of "/24" at the IP?

CIDR is the concept to research.

For example: https://www.ipaddressguide.com/cidr
Do I understand correctly "/24" is some kind of "range" ?
Is it optional / can it be omitted ?
So how does it work when I assign SINGLE static IP?

Setting WiFi static IP

I am currently accessing my RPi via SSH , both wired (via Ethernet) and wireless (built-in WiFi). Been using wired SSH for awhile and really do not recall how the IP got set to be static. I have the WiFi working , but would like to set the IP as static. No technical reason , just for convenience. . ...

Re: Cannot copy SD - no "copy to " selection.

It seems to work with SD/microSD cards & USB drives OK for me, (yes, sometimes it doesn't like one, I think I just reformatted it, then it showed it). I've just updated/dist-upgraded to the latest version on my P3B+ and it finds a "pristine" USB flash drive O.K. NB: that's auto-mounted by the (desk...

Cannot copy SD - no "copy to " selection.

Running latest Stretch OS on RPi 3B and attempting to make an OS (SD) backup to USB.

I can select ANY devices ( SD or USB ) to copy FROM.

The "copy to" pull down box shows no devices to copy to. Nada. Zippo.

Rebooted several times. Same issue.

Using an official 5.1V / 2.5A power supply.

Re: wpa_cli gets stuck - no access to wpa_supplicant until reboot

It looks as folks here are confusing facts with fiction. If something does not work as advertised there is no other way to describe it as a failure. I am not asking for miracles, I just want to make it work and understand why it does or does not. "When you reboot you're just resetting the wifi inter...

Re: wpa_cli gets stuck - no access to wpa_supplicant until reboot

Please, try "man wpa_supplicant" and read the docs at https://w1.fi if you want authoritative information. (Maybe option -g could help) Why do I have to (bother) to use wpa_supplicant if wpa_cli is "front end" for it? Not being smart a.. but applying similar logic - I should not use wpa_gui as " re...

I am find that the hardest part in setting WiFi is "jumping" between different commands.

Re: How can you prove raspberry pi 3B+ is suitable for industrial and stamping factory environment?

Interesting post. My first computing device , I will not date myself, was used in same automotive environment. It was called "mini computer" - sort of rack mounted predecessor of IBM PC. 8 bit discrete IC's "processor" with whopping 4 kB - that is four kilobytes , of RAM! You have to "read in-betwee...

wpa_cli usage questions

I am using raspi-config as a template to learn about wpa. I am primarily using wpa_cli. I did try wpa_gui and did not see much improvement from wpa_cli. Here are some question I like to get some clarification on 1. “wpa_cli” command without options runs wpa_cli in “interactive mode”. It periodically...

Not sure if it is OK to continue here or post a new one. I am still testing wpa_cli and run into an interesting case. I have not edited wpa_supplicant.conf so this may be premature. Re: How to check validity of WiFi?

I use: wpa_cli -i wlan0 reconfigure This will check the config and return OK or FAIL, then if OK the WIFI will immediately connect (or reconnect). Not sure what will be returned if WIFI is configured correctly but not available? Haven't tried to test that. Likely you will need 2 or more commands to...

Are you looking for something that gives you an output like this? wifimode:auto wlan0:up wlan0-SSID:YOURSSID wlan0-ip:127.0.0.1 Yes. So far wpa_supplicant in -dd debug mode a winner , but it should be because it checks the actual conf. It seems that wpa_cli does not add much functionality , but I l...

I had some success using GParted and usbmount. However, always had an issue with Raspian detecting USB devices in general. When in doubt, flush it out AKA reboot.
