Is my pi DOA?

Here is a picture of my pluggin my pi in for the first time. I wrote the Weezy OS to the SD card, using win32 image writer, plugged it into my monitor via HDMI, and plugged my cellphone charger in. At first the green ok light flashed a little. Then it stopped. Power stayed on though. The SD card is ...

Re: Just got my pi.

Will check it out. I considered Python. Is there a big reason to chose it over C?

Just got my pi.

Ok, so I am not a linux user, and I am fairly new to 90% of this. I currently code (if I code) in visual C#, and I currently have an Arduino on it's way in the mail as well. So I think the best language for me to pick up at the moment is probably C. If you have another suggestion go right ahead. So ...

noob guides?

Do we have any good real guides on what to do when your pi is received. I am not a linux user, I could probably get around, but I would like to read a "noob" guide.

Re: Need a cheap media player

If you want even cheaper, you can get the original WDTV (no network support) for $35 or so on ebay. Both versions are well hacked with homebrew operating systems. I've had my original WDTV since they were they were new with a network dongle running off NFS shares on my PC. http://wdlxtv.com/ is hom...

You know, I work at a bestbuy, and I never knew they had a model without the 1TB hard drive, this is much more affordable, and wow, even plays MKVs? that's insane. I am pretty interested, shopping around now.

Re: Need a cheap media player

I've recently acquired two of these best buy easy home dvb-t hd dual to convert our older TVs in holiday home to digital. They are about the price of a RasPi model A and seem to offer similar media player functionality. Of course, you get a full set of Codecs, a TV tuner, record and play from USB d...

I live in the US. Farnell would be located in the UK right? Also, those two items look somewhat sketchy, not much information, no "brand", not very trustworthy looking.

My xbox just died and I have used it basically every night for the last few years to just watch TV shows on before I go to bed, it's been a few days now, and I am going crazy. So besides the ras...

Re: Netbook LCD screen?

The pragmatic approach might be to troubleshoot the netbook a little further. Does the POST run at power up? Screen light up? Have you set the right "boot from" options in the BIOS? Does it boot using a "live" CD / usb stick image? If you're using an external CD drive bear in mind that they are pow...

Tried a billion linux distros, XP, and android. So, is anyone aware of some way to use the LCD screen on the Rpi. I am not an el...

Next stock date?

I know, im annoying. I checked the front page and peeked at the stickies, don't hate me, it's just easier this way.

I STILL don't have a raspberry pi and I am wondering if there was a firm date on the next supply.

<t>Well, The power will be less than a full tower, I don't knwo what the power supply actually was on this. Believe me, I'd love a powerful Rpi like device for this task. I couldn't find anything with the minimum 2Gb of ram I needed for the server.<br/> <br/> (Also I am still buying somewhere around...

Re: Suggestion for something with a little more power?

The Solid run Cubox doesn't look bad.

I should also mention this needs to be standalone. plugged into a wall for power.

I dont actually need any display ports at all. All i need is a USB for a HDD, and w/e method is used for the OS.

Was more looking for a built machine. I could newegg a microATX board and ram around blackfriday for a decent price if I wanted. I wont get a decent price building nwo though.

UK taxes online stuff now too so all that was a bit more expensive.

Re: Linux-y question

Wow monodevelop sounds amazing!

This actually works with .net libraries? Which.. don't exist in linux?

For instance.. I mean any GUI element such as.. A textbox. Does this convert the source to something linux can use? or how is this accomplished.

Id love to take in a new language but as a college student I dont have much time since I need to still learn java. I think if anything Id like to learn C. So I could do.. anything with an Rpi. in the future I hope.
