Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.19

Although it is not recommanded, I always like to try new developments.

Updated to kernel version 4.19.60. But now the the RPI locks up with the cursor in the left upper corner. I found no ways to get around this problem.

Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.19

I'am sorry, but the startup sentences are still in the large fast moving sentences. Difficult to read what is started.

The only thing that I have changed from the 4.19.50 kernel is the latest update 4.19.55.

Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.19

Just added start_x=1 to the config.txt and then updated to 4.19.55. And now the system boots. The start sentences text at the startup however are now rather big. Putting the start_x=1 on a other location in the config.txt does not seem to help. The final working of the system with small text worked ...

Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.19

The kernel 4.19.50 works very well.

It is the latest update also called 4.19.50 that gives the problem with not starting the Pi3b+

Bram

Waiting now for the Pi 4.

Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.19

Just updated the kernel with rpi-update. I had allready version 4.19.50. Now there is another update called 4.19.50. After the updating the Pi 3b+ did not start. This is the first time an update does not work. Tried it with another SD card copy. Same result, Pi did not start after the kernel update....

Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.14

Updated to the latest kernel version to 4.19.25. But then my wireless access point is no longer working. No idea how to fix this. Back to kernel 4.14.98-v7 and then I works well as before.

Kernel 4.19 works very well, except this problem with the Wifi. Was is missing here ?

Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.14

Some more information of my use as a marine chartplotter. Kernel version 4.14.87 V7 works very good in combination with the VC4 OpenGL driver. However upgrading to kernel 4.14.89 some of the old problems re-occur. Chart lock-ups. Locking up the system. Pi-clone not working well. Switching back to ke...

Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.14

I'am using the VC4 driver as seen via rpi-config. No idea which version that it is. Systems works now so well, with a swap partition also installed., that I consider it as my daily internet system. It runs not only the marine chartplotter system, but also Libreoffice with the Cups printer system. In...

Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.14

Just tried the Raspex 64 bits ARM version based on Ubuntu Cosmic 1810 running on my RPI 3B+ Kernel version is 4.14.76-V8+ Installed the vc4 OpenGL driver (can be done also with rpi-config). And can report that this setup works very well and is very fast. Running here for more then 24 hours. It seems...

Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.14

Perhaps the VC4 driver is improved, but I cannot find the source of for it. After some longer use as a marine navigation chart plotter. The present OpenGL VC4 driver in combination with the latest kernel 4.14.73 works perfect with fast screen movements. RPI3 B+ is running on OpenPlotter software bas...

Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.14

Re: Kozman,

I'am using the optional VC4 driver on the RPI 3b+ and now with the 4.14.73 kernel, the OpenCPNsoftware is running faster again.

I have read the info of Eric Anholt of the VC4 OpenGL driver, but have no idea how to get the latest VC4 driver.

Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.14

Just tried the kernel 4.14.72 and can report that it works faster again and now without video problems.

All is running very well. What a progress since the early days of the RPI. The software seems more important then the hardware in the performance of the RPI.

Thanks for all the efforts.

Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.14

I'am sorry to inform that the kernel 4.14.71 gives OpenGL screen errors with zooming in-out with my Marine Navigation system. After some movements on the screen the system locks-up. I remeber seeing an update of Piclone about 5-6 months ago. Result is a better performance. Interesting is also that Piclone can copy 16 GB tot 32 GB and visa versa. Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.14

If it works well with kernel 4.14.62, the conclusion must be it is a kernel problem and not an Piclone issue. With the other kernel versions I also had problems with locking up of the system after some time idle. Screen errors. If kernel 4.14.70 is available I will certainly give it a try. Piclone i...

Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.14

Kernels 4.14.68 and 67 gave memory leaks and locks-up with our marine navigation systems. Now with the latest version 4.14.69 these seem to be solved. Only a small problem occurs. Piclone does no longer work well. I have to revert to kernel 4.14.62 for using the Piclone. With this kernel it works wi...
