Re: PoE HAT - USB Ports not working - over-current

An interesting set of replies!

However, in the meantime I am going to send my PoE Hat's back to RS before my 30 days runs out; my 2 PoE hats have just been sitting on my shelf looking like pretty paperweights.

Re: (Solved - Faulty Unit) PoE HAT - USB Ports not working - over-current

Okay, so....advice up until this point then. Is it just to hang-tight? The OP has of course stated that a replacement Hat has solved the issue. I do think that may be a little optimistic at this point in time, especially taking into account Stuart-JW's side of things where this over-current issue to...

Re: PoE HAT - USB Ports not working - over-current

Hello. I was actually posting about USB power issues I too saw in the 'ETA for Official POE Hat for 3B+' thread. After checking out dmesg, I see the same as you: "over-current change" when the Raspberry Pi is powered through the PoE Hat (using a Ubiquiti switch). Any USB devices I have plugged eithe...

Re: ETA for Official POE Hat for 3B+

Okay, so I've done a bit more testing. I have swapped the PoE hats around: the Pi having the problem with the power LED sometimes going off for a few seconds does still happen, which makes me think the Pi itself could be the issue... however I only bought it new about 2 weeks ago, there's been no ch...

Re: ETA for Official POE Hat for 3B+

Good idea. I will try swapping the hats around. I booted it up again this morning and I can reproduce, so I will get the ironing done and then try swapping the Hats.

My switch too is seeing it as a Class 3 PoE device.

I will do the dist-upgrade again, just to ensure everything is A-OK.

Re: ETA for Official POE Hat for 3B+

Cable-wise, I am using 1M Belkin Cat6 STP cables, I have tried a few and unfortunately the Pi does the same :(

I will however try ordering some contact cleaner, and see if it that helps.

So apart from that, I am out of ideas as to why my Pi's are currently hating their Hats!

Re: ETA for Official POE Hat for 3B+

Hmmm...weird! I am using a Ubiquiti US-16 switch to provide power (set to PoE+ on both ports). Those 2 issues I mentioned earlier happen on separate Pi's - they do not exhibit the symptoms of the other. I tried connecting the Switch to a splitter, and then using that to power the Pi via micro-USB - ...

Re: ETA for Official POE Hat for 3B+

Hello! I received my Pi 3B+ PoE HAT for 2 of my Pi's from RS yesterday, installed fine, turned on, updated the OS to get the latest Kernel, did a cold boot, and everything is going fine powering them from my Switch. Fan is on and off quite often...but that's fine. However... 2 issues I have noticed....
