I received my Rpi last week, since then I have been on a learning curve...infuriating at times, however enjoyable non the less! I hope to learn more about this amazing piece of (forgive me) 'electronics'. So far Ive been able to rewrite the operating system twice through the assistance of this forum...

Anyone know how to play directly from inserted usb drive, rather than saving AVI file to desktop to get it to work?
In any event just happy Ive got it working but dont want to 'overload' something...whatever that something is...I dont know, just a little cautious at the mo.

Ive typed the above into the terminal...it says "have a nice day"...what am I doing wrong?

Downloaded vlc player...has no sound...been into settings and tinkered but it seems to reset to -1 volume...also it will only play mpeg...freezes then I have to reboot...any suggestions...oh cant find xbmc player...computer says cannot locate xbmc.

Success!!! Well the Raspberry Pi's original function was to teach people about programming etc...It certainly has done that! Thank you for your advice, I will now NOT TOUCH ANYTHING on the card(well...I might do when I get the confidence to do it correctly!), thank you again!

Well I unzipped some files...one was quake...just to experiment with unzipping something. it then said 'where to' I picked at the same place they originally where ...downloads. Rebooted then wont let me past startx ...comes back to previous ms-dos type page saying what Id Mentioned in the previous p...

My rasp was working fine, then I tried to download a media player...being a noob(amongst other things!) I unzip some files to the place where they were(this put two/three files next to the ones already there...I shut down the rasp went to boot up and it says "dbus failed!'...then login, fine, then s...

Cant find vidplayer on rasp preloaded card...got musicplayer no vidplayer...have tried downloading omx ...not finding it...give me a cmd to put in the console to download a vidplayer...an I'll get you a pint!
