Re: Install Arch from Windows

Doing the sync and adding the line to codlin.txt and sync+reboot still does not make p1 and p2 appear in dev for loop0, however I do see mmcblk0 , mmcblk0p1, and mmcblkp2 and if I fdisk on mmcblk0 the table has a FAT partition and an Linux partition with the same Id variables as for /dev/loop0.

Re: Install Arch from Windows

Also, when it comes to doing mkfs.vfat - /dev/loop0p1 does not exist, only /dev/loop0.

Best,
Ben.

Re: Install Arch from Windows

Can the dd command be used to make a .img that's 16GB for a 16GB microSD? I tried by making count=16384 but after a while it said dd: writing `arch-rpi.img`: No space left on device.

Thanks,
Ben.

Gertboard LED behaviour

Hi, do bear with me since I'm new to electronics and only a novice programmer. I've got the assembeled gertboard and am up to the part in the manual to test general I/O - where button 3 is used to press and then send signal to Pi, and then out to the LED 6. I have a jumper over the 3.3v that is need...

X11 Forwarding SSH

Hi I've been reading this post: http://raspberry-python.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/sidekick.html I'm under the impression this will eliminate the need for VNC if I connect to my pi via ssh on my mac or windows machine. It seems to have been done in debian however and I'm struggling to achieve it in Arch...

Re: Wireless adapter driver - Pi & Arch

I've found out the errors are the effect of the fact netcfg in arch uses netlink, which not all devices work with yet, but then netcfg uses wext to handle the wireless.

Re: Wireless adapter driver - Pi & Arch

More info from me playing about, a device called wlan0 does show up if I do iwconfig and shows name and all sorts of info about my wireless device. It's also found by lsusb, but if I do: ip link set wlan0 up, the command returns no errors and the blue indication light flashes on once and then stops ...

Wireless adapter driver - Pi & Arch

Hi, I'm having an issue installing the driver to the Edimax EW-7811Un nano wireless adapter in Arch - I've no idea why it works with Raspbian out of the box and it can't for Arch, I'm used to the minimalist philosophy but it shouldn't be hard to set up if desired. Anyway after trying to get the driv...

Re: Setting Up Arch

EDIT: My Wireless USB device does show up with lsusb. When I had to set up wifi devices in the past it was often harder is lsusb or iwconfig did not detect them.

Setting Up Arch

Hi, I used to use Arch on a laptop but stopped about a year ago so before systemd and it seems the setup has also changed somewhat looking at the detailed setup wiki. However I'm having some issues setting up. First I'm somewhat confused as to what do do after writing the image to disk and booting u...

Re: Beginner C++

Thanks, for the help,

Been reading about it some more and about compiling and linking, which is done automatically for the most part by g++ as far as I can see and some executables can be made of multiple sources etc.

Re: C64 emulator

Confused newbie here, I've followed the wiki, or tried to, and added the line to my sources.list file: deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib but if I issue sudo apt-get update command: W: GPG error: http://ftp.uk.debain.org squeeze InRelease: File /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/ftp.u...

Re: Beginner C++

Thanks for the link, just tried compiling a simple Hello World type C++ script. It worked a treat. Another possibly silly question, is compiling something in this way with g++ similar to the compiling (both use the word compiling) of packages either into a .deb with debian or with Arch the AUR and P...

Beginner C++

Hi, I'm a relative n00b to programming recently thrust into it by my PhD project material. I'm a biologist by training, specializing in experimental evolution, but I've expanded to simulations, which means programming. Up until now I'be been writing simulations in the interpreted statistical program...

Re: VGA Monitor

Thanks! I managed to get one off Amazon for 11 quid. In retrospect it was a n00b question, but then I'm a newcomer to this stuff, but following sites about the Pi and the Arduino I liked what I saw and decided to buy a Pi. I noticed that the config file may have to be changed according to a customer...

VGA Monitor

Hi, I read around the Google but didn't really find a satisfying answer so here goes. I got my Pi a few days ago and bought a HDMI to VGA cable, I've tried using it and it wouldn't work, although I've since discovered these cables rarely work - something to do with digital signal with HDMI is not sa...
