Is it possible for a custom icon to be in the kernel? Like, replace whatever number of raspberries with a custom icon?

Hello! I was wondering if there is any way to modify operating systems that only work on the pi 2/3 (Like Ubuntu Mate) so they work on the Pi 3 B+.
I think the problem is with the bootcode.bin, but I'm not sure how to fix this.
