Using netcat output in a bash if statement

Hello. I am trying to make a "smart doorbell" with a Raspberry Pi. I am trying to send a message between two Pi's over a network, using netcat. My code is below: #!/bin/bash until [ 2 -lt 1 ]; do sleep 0.01 message=$( watch netcat -l 4590 ) if [ -n $message ] then echo $message if [ "$message" = "di...

Re: Replacing a USB connector (Pi 3 B+)

The USB 3 connector will have extra pins and the pin arrangement + pitch will be different so it won't be a drop-in replacement. It would be a lot of work to make it fit with no benefit since it will still only work at USB 2.0 speeds and the USB 3 connector is more expensive. Wasn't sure if you cou...

Replacing a USB connector (Pi 3 B+)

My USB connector is completely busted. The metal piece that has both power pins on it has completely broken off, rendering two out of four USB ports utterly useless. I know I can use desoldering wick to remove the USB connector, and I know how to get a replacement usb connector. https://www.newark.c...

Re: Flash image for x86 on RaspberryPi

The question is the image what to write. HP does not support with bin file to flash. Are you sure about that? You can download the .exe BIOS/UEFI updater from support.hp.com , and you can unpack the .bin file from it. I have found my Rom.bin file in the sp91541.exe, with File Roller. sp91541.exe ->...

Okay, after reading I've decided I'll probably just name it the Strawberry Pie or something and make it similar.

That'd be a laughable lawsuit, though. I doubt they would take me to court for using a raspberry pi logo on an official raspberry pi site.

Using the raspberry pi in a game

Hello. I'm a game developer (Kind of, i haven't really developed much yet, but I'm learning.) I'm working on a project in which the player builds different types of technology, and I was wondering if I could put the Raspberry Pi in this game, as a piece of tech that the users could build. I'm not su...

Sed command not working

Hello! I'm trying to make an easier way to overclock a Pi, and i'm trying to echo the new arm_freq=1500 to the config.txt on line 78 but for some reason it won't copy over. My command is as follows:

Code: Select all

sudo sed -i 78i\arm_freq=1500 /boot/config.txt

Manual Modification of boot folder.

Hello! I was wondering if there is any way to modify operating systems that only work on the pi 2/3 (Like Ubuntu Mate) so they work on the Pi 3 B+.
I think the problem is with the bootcode.bin, but I'm not sure how to fix this.

Apparently Apt is newer than apt-get. The functions are pretty much the same, just executed different ways :D :D

And also Conky.
My Pi does run at 1.5 Ghz, but If im not doing something I think it drops to about 600MHZ.

Is it possible to take a 1TB external USB hard drive and make a swapfile?

If so, couldn't you make the swapfile like 750 GB+, and have enough swap memory to run everything? Just curious if anybody has tried something similar, I'm running a 400 MB swap file on a 500MB or so USB drive that I don't really use anyway, figured might as well put it to use, even if it affects it...
