Re: OLED 16x2 HD44780 woes

Hi, sorry to bump this old thread, but i have a WS0010 16x2 LCD i'd like to use as well. I bought one of the SPI ones because it would run on fewer wires. https://www.crystalfontz.com/product/cfal1602cpgt-oled-sunlight-16x2-SPI-character-green Does anyone have this working properly on their pi? I am...

Re: Pi Fan not working

I followed this guide exactly: https://github.com/KyleRoss/rpi-fan-controller Ditch that guide, at least the hardware part. The author has numbered the Pi pins wrongly, can't be bothered to identify the transistor connections, and doesn't know how to put together a working circuit. The circuit is a...

Re: Pi Fan not working

One thing I noticed is the default pin is 18 but pin 18 is not hooked up. I tried pin 12 too and still nothing happened. I am using a pi 3b+. Had a quick look at the code and it seems to use BCM numbering. So that should be GPIO18, physical pin 12 The code seems to switch on / off the fan depending...

Pi Fan not working

I followed this guide exactly: https://github.com/KyleRoss/rpi-fan-controller But nothing happens and no fan spins when i run sudo rpifan . I have checked that all connections are good with a multimeter. What could be wrong? One thing I noticed is the default pin is 18 but pin 18 is not hooked up. I...

Re: 3B+ power on sometimes does not boot

Is my pi already getting worn out? Is this a known issue? Thanks in advance. Your Raspberry Pi computer will not wear out for decades. It has no moving parts, and the SoC is based on very robust mobile technology. Also, it uses very little power when idle, so there is no need to turn it off in betw...

Re: 3B+ power on sometimes does not boot

From https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/pi-3-booting-part-i-usb-mass-storage-boot/ Are there any bugs / problems? There are a couple of known issues: Some flash drives power up too slowly. There are many spinning disk drives that don’t respond within the allotted two seconds. It’s possible to extend ...

3B+ power on sometimes does not boot

Hi everyone, i am using a 3 b+ with a USB drive to boot from. When i go to bed i usually shut off and unplug the power from the pi to keep it from wearing itself out. Today when plugging it in, it would not boot until i removed every usb device but the boot drive and even then it took a couple tries...

Re: Soldering iron recommendations

I have a pre digital Hakko 888, it's great but i've lost one and destroyed the cable on another of the removable iron handles. I still have the base which works fine, which is the only reason i haven't bought an Aoyue soldering station, which can be bought for very little money. I've seen longtime e...

Re: Is a PI 3 a viable desktop replacement?

I'm looking into running it off a usb hdd or ssd. Is anyone doing this? Is the sd card just used for the boot files at that point? You don't need an SD card to run a 3B(+) off an USB drive Yup i just realized this, i found the usb boot thread stickied and cloned my sd card to a spare ssd. Working g...

Re: Pi3 - USB boot

Wow. Just cloned my 64gb SD card to a cheap Sandisk X110 64gb SSD in a USB enclosure. Even though the sd card i was using was the fastest rated Evo+ for random reads and writes, i am finding the pi is wildly faster than when running off the microSD card! Maybe now i will clone my ssd to the microSD ...

Re: Is a PI 3 a viable desktop replacement?

I know this is an old topic but i want to bring it up for the sake of the pi 3b+. I have it running at 1440p @ 30hz, turbo mode off, and 350-400mb dedicated to the GPU. I have a Samsung evo+ card as it's rated fastest for random read/writes. I am not sure why dillo is preinstalled but not available ...

Re: Migrate 64GB card to 32GB!

Gparted to reduce the partition on the 64gb card, then boot back into it and make sure it works, then use clonezilla or dd. That is what i would do. But ive never heard of SD Card Copier and it might do what you need easier.

Re: chromium-browser *used* to work on a pi0w, not now

Vivaldi blows away chromium for me on latest raspbian, some pages that would hang and crash the browser in chromium are loading with decent speed for how loaded they are in Vivaldi.

Hey thanks! I made minor modifications to the config.txt floating around in that thread, and now have my 3b+ happily running at true 1440p @ 30Hz! Awesome! (24 worked, but was too slow unresponsive for me. 30 is okay)

Raspbian on 1440p monitor (2560x1440)

Hi everybody, I'm aware the Pi 3b+ doesn't output above 1080p. I don't think I can overclock the gpu to be able to handle 2560x1440, could i? Otherwise, i'm looking for advice on how to make the screen look less blurry. Is there an option for this kind of thing anywhere? Everything is a little blurr...

Hi all~ I plan to try out RISC OS on my 3 B+. I really want to like it and need to spend most of my time working within it. So i will be in the web browser and will need JavaScript to work. 1) Is Netsurf my best option for a browser with JavaScript compatibility? Perhaps Otter or QupZilla? 2) Is Cre...

Hello, I've just posted a v1.2.2 release of my bootable 64-bit Gentoo image for the RPi3 (model B and B+) on GitHub ( here , includes full download instructions). A changelog from the prior release image (with upgrade instructions) may be viewed here , but in summary: Migrated the default binary ke...
