Re: Pi4(4G) running Buster - lost desktop menu bar, menu functionality after update & full upgrade

Something like this happened before for me, though it was the raspberry pi desktop on debian on an x86 laptop - see https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=116&t=261354#p1592256 The following may help now too : sudo apt install raspberrypi-ui-mods See the explanation in a later post in th...

Re: Need help with Widex COM-DEX Bluetooth device on Pi

I don't have any Windows devices. I'm going to disconnect the Pi4 from my monitor/keyboard/mouse and try some other other Pi of mine that I think has Bluetooth, like a 3B, a 3A+, or a Zero W. SO, on a 3B, I can pair, I can set up the COM-DEX as my audio input and output, but I don't actually get an...

Re: Need help with Widex COM-DEX Bluetooth device on Pi

Interesting - I just tried pairing the COM-DEX with a former Chromebook that now runs Raspberry Pi Desktop. (See https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=116&t=248742 and https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=116&t=266314&p=1632587#p1632583 ) It pairs - which happened on the p...

COM-DEC bluetooth device gives "Paired successfully, but this device has no services which can be used with Raspberry Pi

The Widex COM-DEX is a bluetooth device meant to send the audio from computers, phones and other devices into Widex hearing aids. See here: https://www.widex.com/en-us/hearing-aids/hearing-aid-accessories/com-dex The COM-DEX *does* pair with the Pi4, but I get the message: Paired successfully, but t...

Re: size of graphical desktop if no display is attached

You forgot to mention which RPi you have but sounds like it is not a RPi4. RPi 1, 2 or 3 and Zero will revert to composite output (NTSC/PAL) when no HDMI display is attached at boot. In order to force HDMI, use sudo raspi-config or the GUI config tool to set a resolution that you like. Choose anyth...

Re: Chromium couldn't update to the latest version

I was likely the first to notice this, and have opened a topic on it. Quoting ShiftPlusOne from that topic : It's a bug within chromium. The message should not be there unless it's an official chrome build. It's fixed in a later version, so the next release of chromium shouldn't have it. Easy solut...

Re: Xscreensaver window flashes and goes away

That message is not a problem; I get it too. Check that the menu entry is OK: right-click on it and check the command in the tab 'desktop entry'. It should just say 'xscreensaver-demo' If that's OK then post the contents of the desktop file. You can find the details of this file on the 'General' ta...

Re: SD Card test won't work on original Pi B (256MB)

In /usr/share/agnostics/sdtest.sh add --max-jobs=4 as an argument to the FIO invocation. Seems to cut RAM usage by a drastic amount. @jdb: I made your suggested change, and then I could run the test on my original Pi B (256MB): [email protected]:~ $ sudo vi /usr/share/agnostics/sdtest.sh [email protected]:~ $ sh /usr/sh...

Re: SD Card test won't work on original Pi B (256MB)

I just ran the new SD Card speed test on my fleet of Raspberry Pi's. It ran on zeros, zero Ws, pi2, pi3b, pi3a+, and pi4, and got QUITE a range of speeds, some passing, some failing, but that's another story. It would not run at all on my original (256MB) model (1)B: Just to clarify, I ran all of t...

Re: SD Card test won't work on original Pi B (256MB)

Trying to expand the question here - are there any other items that won't work on the original Pi B with 256MB of memory? @ejolson said here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=268964&hilit=486dx#p1632530 In fact, it may already have happened that the original 256MB Pi B is not ...

Re: Raspberry Pi Desktop (Hardware Compatibility List / Trouble shoot)

A note about Chromebooks: You have many more options for life-after-ChromeOS if you have/get an intel-based chromebook. This isn't just about being able to run RPD or other x86 GNU/Linux, but also being able to use WIne to add any desired Windows programs. A family member had a really nice Chromeboo...

Re: Raspberry Pi Desktop (Hardware Compatibility List / Trouble shoot)

Acer Chromebook 11" Model: CB3-111. I first tried RPD off a USB stick, and I loved it. I had to open the case and remove the Write-protect screw using instructions here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Acer_CB3-111_Chromebook , which refer to a picture here https://samsclass.info/128/proj/asus-s...

Code: Select all

(xscreensaver-demo:21827): libglade-WARNING **: 18:21:53.016: Could not load support for `gnome': libgnome.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
But the Screensaver Preferences window DOES open that way (from the command line) though it doesn't from the menu.

Xscreensaver window flashes and goes away

I've installed Xscreensaver on a Pi4-4GB in order to play with screen blanking and other options. I followed the directions here https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/screensaver.md , a simple install which put a menu item in the Preferences menu. When I click on the new menu item,...

Re: Raspberry Pi Diagnostics feedback

I did go ahead and copy my three images to better cards, which unsurprisingly improved performance. I also tried what some had suggested in the comments to Simon's original post, rewriting over every bit using the SD card association's tool, and then copying the images back. That did NOT change the ...

Re: Raspberry Pi Diagnostics feedback

I understand that this test's pass and fail are WRT an arbitrary standard that may or may not matter for one's own application.. It HAS shown me that some of my cards are MUCH worse than others, and, since I have better cards already on hand, I will try improving performance (whether that's critical...
