If cmdline.txt in /boot is edited to say root=/dev/sda (or whichever your drive is labeled as) The usb drive will automatically be mounted at / then the boot will start. It shouldnt be mounted anywhere else. (I could be wrong but I have booted off a USB before) I hope this answers your question.

I plan to upload just a tarball that can just be untared onto the usb (or in this case you could overwrite the ext4 partition of the SD) that will allow you to use the whole drive without expanding it. Its being uploaded now. Also any news from the people who have downloaded it? It it all working?

The kernel is still the default one from raspbian. I found the part i learnt most from was failling with ubuntu 9.10.

EDIT: Yay it has a download, if the person who downloaded could post back about how it went, that would be great

It really only was for me to learn more about the linux OS. I just thought someone might prefer to use it over debian if they were used to ubuntu.

Support for this OS version ended in 2010, whereas Raspbian with LXDE, as pointed out above is very close (functionality wise, and DNA wise) to Ubuntu (both have their roots in Debian), and Raspbian is very well supported. It booted up on a 512mb pi but i am unsure of 256mb.

Thats why its a beta

I am currently using the default rpi kernel (Or is that not supported by Karmic?) The error comes from mountall but then mount has an error as well.
