On that 5.5 volt power supply, what matters more is amps - which is the capacity to carry power. So, even if voltage stays the same, if more amps are available, more power can be presented to the device.

Welcome aboard! You have entered the fun world of the Pi... What are your plans for it? Sounds like some kind of media player. You may want to add a hard drive or flash drive(s). And pick up some more uSD cards so you can back up what you have, create a "recovery disk" or play around with other dis...

I now have a working RPi 2. Thought I needed NOOBS, but that was more work than it was worth. I downloaded the latest Raspbian with its desktop from here.
