Re: Buster bug report thread

The weird coloring produced by apt is hard to impossible to read when the screen is in a brightly lit area. Can the weird colors please be turned off by default?

Code: Select all

$ cat /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/80nocolor
Binary::apt::APT::Color "0";

Re: I dont get it... Why is everyone from science schools so obsessed with Perl and Python when we got C?

Its 20-100x times faster and uses 20-100x less RAM? C is not faster for everything. Perl is highly efficient at text processing and, especially, regular expression pattern matching. I've read anecdotes from some very skilled C programmers reporting to their consternation that it beat C for some tas...

Re: Is it possible to connect a domain to a raspberry pi without exposing my PI address?

Please explain how that has any relevance to the OP's question. It's the only way to keep the address unknown. If the service can run over TCP then it can be run as an Onion service. It's not that hard to set up but might be a barrier for casual visitors or players. Apparently that game can use eit...

The error message does not say something like 'module not found'.
Did you enable SPI on the new distribution, use "sudo raspi-config" for this.
D'oh. That was it. I have now added "enable SPI" to my notes on backup / restore for that program.

Thanks.

not finding inkyphat on buster

I have a script I've brought over from stretch to buster. However, it is not finding the inkyphat module in buster. The module can't be found manually either: Below is the result of using the python3 interpreter to try to import the module alone. Where have I taken a wrong turn? $ head -n 1 /etc/os-...

Re: getting crontab working with .sh

You've missed the syntax for cron and have used the syntax for a system cron file. There's a difference. The former you access as you have done, using 'crontab -e' . The other you set up through editing files in the directory /etc/cron.d/ See 'man 5 crontab' for the details. Set the file permissions...

So Buster has been released (with the Pi4) it brings a few things with it, https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/ Nice. I've been looking forward to that. When will the Torrents be in place? I've added them to Transmission but get the error message "Requested download is not authorized for...

Exciting. I guess there will be some general-audience blog posts or articles going into the details when the time is right.

Re: exploring uses of nginx with rpi 2+ / rpi zero w

The light load you describe should be quite manageable by the Raspberry Pi, the specs blow away what we had in the 1990s. But its responsiveness will very much depend on what part of the system is in use. A very slow part will be any time the system reads from or writes to the SD card, like when dre...

Re: Networking and SSH problems

(cd is built into the shell and not affected by sudo, also it only changes the working directory. So you'll need to point sudo at a specific utility such as ls or cat. I'm not sure how it is related to the task at hand however. You should be able to, and should in general, connect to the Raspberry P...

Re: Lance a script automatically that logs my raspberry pi3 to my server

If you are using rsync, you can get there with the following steps 1. Enable OpenSSH on the Debian PC. Ensure you can log in with SSH from the Raspberry Pi. 2. Set up key-based authentication from the Raspberry Pi to the Debian PC. Ensure you can log in using just the keys. 3. Turn off password-base...

Re: simple html <button> execute aplay

If you are using PHP (are you sure it's 5 and not 7?) take a look at the system() function to call aplay. Just remember that Apache2 needs read access to the sound file. However, if you don't let the script act on any inputs, then it could even be as simple as a CGI shell script: #!/bin/sh echo -e "...

Re: How do you name your Pies?

Since I generally operate them headless via SSH and or UART, having a host name which identifies the task at hand makes a big difference. I've settled on using a single-word mnemonic for the particular project plus a two-digit number for the SD card's storage slot. The storage slots have some pencil...

Another way could be to have a script or unit file fetch the document from a web server using curl or wget and then display it with LibreOffice. Re: Unzipping .zip image to SD disk?

You'd need the options -c and -d for unzip to use it in a pipe. Likewise for dd, you'd need if=/dev/stdin to deal with input via the pipe. See the manual pages to be sure.

The above formula in your second script won't work. xargs works differently. However, even when the flow is corrected I'm not seeing a way for xargs (or parallel) to pass all the pictures' file names ahead of the output file name. So I would try it with command substitution instead: #!/bin/sh montag...
