SD card copier, confused, use /dev/sdb or /dev/sda?

Hello, I used the SD Card Copier a couple of times and it works really well. However I am confused every time I plug in my backup SD card. I choose the source, but then when I want to pick the destination two devices are visible : /dev/sdb and /dev/sda. I used /dev/sda, but I would like to be sure. ...

Re: How do you mainly use your Raspberry Pi?

With the RPI3 I had it was difficult to browse and do a lot, really basics. The main restriction was the 1GB memory, which rendered Chrome useless. But I now have the RPI4 with 4GB (although 2GB would suffice) I pretty much do what I do on my desktop. I can even watch HD on BBC IPlayer, two browsers...

Re: Pi3 overheating: would Pi4 be cooler?

I cannot give a definite answer as to whether the PI4 is cooler than the PI3, but just in case I purchased and attached this heatsink and the heatsink is pretty cool, the temp sensor shows on average 40-50 degrees. https://thepihut.com/products/xl-raspberry-pi-4-heatsink But you would have to cut th...

Weird - Add/Remove Software app says "no network conneciton"

Hello, just today I wanted to add some programs, like gnome-control-centre, so I ran the console "apt update and upgrade" and all went well. I have a WIFI connection which is perfect, I am streaming a live radio station, but then I wanted to check something in the GUI Add/Remove Software and this is...

Re: bluetooth problem

I was following instructions from this thread to try and troubleshoot. No luck: https://peppe8o.com/fixed-connect-bluetooth-headphones-with-your-raspberry-pi/ Raspbian does come with both ALSA and Pulseaudio, so no need to install, but I keep getting this error when running the systemctl status comm...

Re: bluetooth problem

Hi, there definately is a problem the way thing works, or rather. I normally use Linux Mint and all works like a charm, I usually use the "blueman" BT manager from which I can control the output, I don't have to use the mixer applet in systray ( I don't really know how to call it). Here, when I conn...

It would be useful to have a list of which BT audio devices work and which don't. Maybe there is one somewhere ? Re: bluetooth problem

I had a similar problem with a 'Plugable' Bluetooth dongle. Connecting it to my BT headset, it paired and then connected (right click on speaker icon), but it wouldn't direct the audio output to the headset. I rebooted, but still no go. Simple solution that worked for me and one I found by accident...

Re: bluetooth problem

Well, I am not using any dongle, but the RPI internal BT. It does work, after 10 attempts, disconnecting, connecting and switching on it finally worked. Unfortunately , after a reboot again, same problem, I think the bluetooth does work, connects, but the Audio applet in the Systray is erratic and t...

Re: bluetooth problem

Hello, me too, Sony bluetooth connection stablished, however there doesn't seem to be a way to change from the jack audio to headphones. Some people go to a lot of trouble installing Pulseaudio, so is there some glitch in the audo control applet? https://plugable.com/2016/03/14/listening-to-bluetoot...

Re: Raspberry PI 4 heatsink to big?

If its sold by a reputable company like the PiHut specifically for the Pi4 then I am sure its fine. In general, the bigger the heat sink the better, though the height may be limited by the need to fit a hat board. I use a 40x40x18mm heat sink which works well. Obviously disconnect the power whilst ...

Re: Raspberry PI 4 heatsink to big?

You'll have to ask PiHut for guidance on this. Take some photos of the heatsink and with it mounted on the Pi 4. I wouldn't want to run my PI without a heatsink, I already had one previous RPI 3 die because of the heat it generated without one. https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/07/22/raspberry_pi_...

Re: Raspberry PI 4 heatsink to big?

What do you mean "GPU socket"? There is no GPU socket on a Pi. Looking at the pictures on the PiHut site and looking at my Pi 4 I don't see how it can be doing any harm if it is nicely mounted as shown. Is your heat sink ant different? Can you post a picture? I find it hard to believe your Pi 3 die...

The images don't show that actually this barely fits, I trusted those pictures, so don't be surprised.

Raspberry PI 4 heatsink to big?

Hello, I just had my new RPI 4 delivered and with the suggested heatsink, which seems to be huge: https://thepihut.com/products/xl-raspberry-pi-4-heatsink If I place it the way it's shown it touches the GPU socket dangerously and also risks damaging other components. Are there any more accurate pict...

Re: RPI 3B+ how to stop Chrome from using 100% CPU

You might try to turn on ZRAM, which I hear fixes most low on memory problems. Read: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=169608&start=50#p1132412 a process (like a browser) suddenly becoming slow points to a system that started swapping RAM to storage (and back) because of using...

[Answered] RPI 3B+ how to stop Chrome from using 100% CPU

Hello, just a quick question, ever since I had my PRI 3B+ the Chrome browser can just completely overtake the CPU up to 100% and the system stops responding. This can happen even if one page is open (of course, there's stuff going under the bonnet...), however I am surprised that this cannot be prev...

Hello, I keep having problems with unmounting USB disks when using the default File Manager: umount-crash.png The message in the sys tray says it's safe to remove the device. Is this a known issue? Kodi just hangs - reboot needed, very frustrating

Hello, My experiences with Kodi are quite positive. Configured with more memory added to GPU, settings to use GPU acceleration, all well, watching Blue Ray movies seems fine. However sometimes it just hangs, there is no response from the keyboard or mouse, especially when I press the Exit button. It...

Is this in the main repository to install using apt-get? Or did you get the source and compiled?
