If you can avoid Samba/CIFS then avoid it. My ancient Zyxel NAS supports NFSV3, so I mount the NFS shares on all fifteen Raspberries.
But what if I want to use Pi as NAS? No good idea?

Samba performance with 3+?

In this 'SBC NAS Group Test' Christopher measures 10.3 MB/s with Samba and a Pi 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsCgXQjaviM

What do you 3+ owners get in the same scenario?

Re: RPi 3B+ gigabit ethernet bad download speeds.

I have tested the same cable in same conditions on same port on a Tinkerboard and I can achieve 180 Mbits/sec internet download speeds. Nice, obviously it doesn't help with your Pi. So why focus on TB? Or the other way around: do you get same amount of retransmits with iperf3 and the PC with same c...

Re: RPi 3B+ gigabit ethernet bad download speeds.

[ 4] 0.00-10.00 sec 273 MBytes 229 Mbits/sec 3484 sender 3484 retransmits are 3484 too much :) Fix this cabling/contact problem and your download speed will be OK too (when you access hosts on the Internet round-trip times are much higher so every retransmit trashes performance a lot more compared ...

I only have posted iperf -s that is the RPi3B+ output nor my big PC output.
Yeah, you don't want to look for retransmit. I see. OK. What about PC output or testing in other direction? It's the 'Retr' column that contains the information :)

Re: RPi 3B+ gigabit ethernet bad download speeds.

Strange. 'Retr' column missing entirely. Maybe you need test other direction or look at client output? If I understood correctly retransmits are the problem?

Re: RPi 3B+ gigabit ethernet bad download speeds.

iperf bandwith test is ok on my RPi3B+...226 Mbits/sec Not ok. If you get below 300 Mbits/sec you most probably suffer from retransmits all the time. Use iperf3 and not iperf as suggested. https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=207863&p=1286160#p1286150 vs. https://www.raspberrypi....

Re: cpuinfo reports Pi3B as BCM2835 ...

Except the 2835 is ARMv6...so in that respect cpuinfo is wrong. Yes, it should better read bcm28xx. I was trying to explain that you won't get Features : fp asimd evtstrm crc32 CPU implementer : 0x41 CPU architecture: 8 CPU variant : 0x0 CPU part : 0xd03 CPU revision : 4 instead of Features : half ...

Re: cpuinfo reports Pi3B as BCM2835 ...

ARMv8-A which the A53 is supports both AArch32 and AArch64. You need 'arm_control=0x200' in config.txt and 64-bit kernel otherwise CPU is hiding ARMv8 features and behaves like ARMv7. So cpuinfo is correct. No idea how to switch from ARMv7 to ARMv8/Aarch32. I only know either ARMv7 or ARMv8/Aarch64...

You can't expect ARMv8 with a 32-bit kernel :)

I always use /proc/device-tree/model since more precise than cpuinfo (where output depends on kernel version and in which state CPU has been brought up)

Re: Pi 3B+ single core performance better than Pi 3B?

But running frequency measurement in 2nd ssh session in parallel shows that it really runs only in 600MHz although min scaling frequency is 1400000?!?!?! Yes. It explained here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=82373 I use Rpi monitor https://rpi-experiences.blogspot.com/p/rp...

Re: Pi 3B+ single core performance better than Pi 3B?

Maybe both Pi computers are running in low power 600MHz mode because of a substandard power supply. In that case measurement would not show 1.4GHZ, right? Linux always reports wrong clockspeeds and 'vcgencmd measure_clock arm' only shows actual value. When you checked your Pi was idle (no performan...
