Re: timeout in locking authority file /home/pi/.Xauthority

Today I did a

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

and the problem went away!

the upgrade step takes a long time, about 20 minutes.

Re: timeout in locking authority file /home/pi/.Xauthority

Hi

I have just had exactly the same problem, also running with a wifi dongle. 2 weeks ago, when I tried the dongle it worked fine, now it gives me the same message as you have had.

Help someone!!

Trying Vonets VAP11G wifi bridge

Previously I have connected my pi (running raspbian) to ethernet via a normal cable, but today the Vonets VAP11G wifi bridge arrived, and I tried it. It worked first time! I was also using powered usb hub for the first time. Picture here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/22203542@N00/7662054784/in/set-7...

Re: newbie VNC question - how to close

You answered the question "How to terminate the VNC session from the pi", but not the question "How to terminate the session on the client". On the client, the gui screen appears to still be responsive after logout, which is confusing. So I guess my question really is "Is disconnect on client system...

newbie VNC question - how to close

I am running vnc viewer on a windows laptop communicating with tightvncserver on the pi. Works well, but how should I close the session in an orderly manner? If I choose Logout, it appears to leave the GUI running and the menus are still active (though the logo at bottom right) has changed to a gree...

Re: Cannot connect via Android VNC to new Raspbian

Suddenly, it works! :D :D

So problem solved, although not sure why...

Phone is really too fiddly to control pi, but it would surely be great on Android Nexus 7, newly out!!

Pat on back for pi, raspbian, android...

Re: Boots once - never again

I had the same problem - system booted fine the first time (Debian Squeeze), went through once-off initialisation, came up fine. I logged in, did startx, played around. Then did shutdown and the thing refused to boot when I re-inserted power lead. This happened with 2 SD cards and continued to happe...

the problem seems to have gone away since I installed the new raspbian image. It was probably a user error anyway (mine!)

thanks for responding.

Just successfully run a vnc session on the new raspbian using tightvncserver - vnc viewer, and did a normal shutdown afterwards, with no problem.

Re: shutdown problem after vnc session

I used the Squeeze image, but I have just installed the new Raspbian (impressive!) so will very shortly try tightvnc again with that one, and report any problem.

Re: Raspbian is finally, formally here!

I can confirm the awesomeness. The front end menu for automatically resizing the partition, overscan, time zone, location and all of those configuration settings was especially nice. And yes, it's much, much faster. Having gone through this front-end menu, how do I find it again, if I change my min...
