Re: The Monitor will not detect my Raspberry Pi

I found that my monitor would not recognise the raspi when I had another video input connected to the same monitor. I connected just the raspi and then all was good.

Scanner

I have tried Skanlite and simple-scanner with Raspian but neither works. I was able to get both to work with Debian and with Ubuntu. Does anyone have any suggestions or can the suggest a document scanner package that will work with Raspian?

Re: playing .mp4 files with hello_video

I can play mp3 sound files using the analogue output and omxplayer. I can't play AVI videos with omxplayer which only plays the sound of the video. I can play an AVI video with mplayer but don't get sound. Hmmm what should I do?

Re: No sound Rasbian Wheezy

@ Lob0426 When I open /boot/config.txt using the text editor and try and make the changes you said to play sound with a HDMI monitor with no sound capabilities and then try and save the edited file it says I don't have access or something like that. I guess when you use the editor your are not root ...

Re: No sound Rasbian Wheezy

Here is what I did. I removed VLC by typing apt-get remove VLC at the command line while in root. I made sure that I installed alsa_utils using command line again but wasn't really sure if I needed to do this but did it anyway. I installed omxplayer. This is apparently a command line utility but I d...

Re: No sound Rasbian Wheezy

@Lob0462 the speakers have a USB male connector that plugs into a powered USB hub and there is the analog audio jack that plugs into the audio output from the rpi. It worked OK with Ubuntu on a desktop computer. My monitor does not have sound capabilities and I connect to it using a HDMI/DVI-D cable.

I tried VLC with a HDMI-dvi monitor connection. I used to get error message. Then I must have installed some other package and now the video jerks through but no sound. Still working on it.

Same problem here. HDMI monitor... no sound capability. Plugged in USB speakers into powered hub plugged into sound socket. VLC seemed to make all the right moves but no sound. Hmmmm. I am open to suggestions. I can use Ubuntu on my desktop PC with the same USB speakers and it works so I know speake...

Re: accessing network

Thanks Ghans. The CLI is ok for me. I grew up with DOS and did some BASIC and Fortran years ago. Not too good with Linux but the worst that could happen is that I need to reflash the memory card and start again. Not a problem. I read somewhere in the sound trouble shooting area that the config file ...

screensaver

I installed cmatrix, a screensaver that looks like the screen from Matrix (you know numbers and letters running down the page) . The only way I can get the screensaver to run (in a fashion) is to type "cmatrix" at the CLI prompt and it then does the matrix thing but inside a terminal window. Kind of...

Hey "came", I have been away for a few days and when I came back I installed the package that you suggested and it worked. Now I can see the network drives! How the hell do you know this stuff? I installed VLC and it plays videos( but no sound) if the file is on the pi memory card or on a USB drive ...

accessing network

I have Raspbian. My system at home has a wireless router/modem with four ethernet ports or switches I guess. A network drive is attached to the router with an ethernet cable. I can access the network drive over wireless on my WIN7 laptop because I mapped the drive. I can also enter the IP address of...

I am not sure whether I did the right thing but it was not that complicated for me. I have a powered hub and a 160GB usb drive. Once the RPi was up and running I just plugged the drive into the powered up and then in the GUI went to file manager and saw what was listed there. The USB drive was there...

Re: Emulating Raspberry Pi in Windows the easy way

I installed Oracle VirtualBox and then installed the Debian squeeze and ran it in the virtual machine and got it to work like a RPi. That was fun. There was a video that explained how to do it and it was at www.debianperu.org/archives/1050

Re: Order

They say that there are delays in shipping. Mine was sent six weeks after the order was placed. It was sent DHL and I got an email from RS when it was shipped and I got a tracking number and I could then track the order thru a web link that RS sent to me.
