Re: SD Card performance in R-Pi onboard slot

Just FYI Raspbian wheezy works fine for me, with none of the problems I encountered from the Debian wheezy beta. It's still slower than squeeze to boot, but only by a few seconds possibly just due to the fact that it does more, and it seems to be a lot faster in use.

Re: SD Card performance in R-Pi onboard slot

Note that, when I actually got wheezy to boot, as well as being incredibly slow, my keyboard malfunctioned - keys auto-repeating by themselves, or intermittently failing to respond. The troubleshooting guides say that this suggests a power problem, but (a) it never happened with squeeze, and (b) it ...

Re: SD Card performance in R-Pi onboard slot

By the way, is this all a bit redundant now that Raspbian wheezy is out?

Re: SD Card performance in R-Pi onboard slot

Anything after the coloured square (displayed by start.elf) must be displayed by the kernel :) start.elf and kernel.img are both very low-level and still evolving, and can have "subtle interactions" - this is why it's generally best to update them both at the same time using rpi-update. I couldn't ...

Re: SD Card performance in R-Pi onboard slot

I was asking because usually when logo is dispalyed you should also see some text with kernel messages. Did you see any or there was none? None. There is a cursor underneath which flashes briefly after displaying the logo; then it hangs with the cursor either there (but no longer flashing), or not ...

kadamski wrote:What do you mean "hangs at logo"? You mean colored splash screen before booting or raspberry logo displayed by kernel?
I mean the raspberry logo, that's why I said the logo ;)
Is that displayed by the kernel? And yet replacing the kernel doesn't fix the hang, but changing start.elf does?

Re: SD Card performance in R-Pi onboard slot

I'm going to try swapping cards, maybe I have a bad card here. Nope. The card doesn't make a difference. On either my 4GB class 6, or my 8GB class 4 Sandisks: Standard squeeze Pi distro: boots fine, logo to getty in about 16 seconds flat. wheezy beta: hangs at logo. wheezy beta + latest start.elf: ...

Can you try a:
boot_delay=1
on config.txt (or 2 is that doesn't work)
Nope. Displays logo as before, cursor flashes for $boot_delay seconds, then hangs as before.

Re: SD Card performance in R-Pi onboard slot

Hi, I've only had my RPi a couple of days and been experimenting with different SD cards and different distros. I too have found that wheezy with the latest start.elf is extremely slow to boot on a Sandisk 4GB class 6 card (labelled 30MB/s). It's taking 105s to get to enabling the swapfile. There ar...
