Re: SD Card vs SSD Boot on Pi3

Boot time doesn't change much over a fast SD card and what little speed benefit you might get would be cancelled out by the board having to seek out the USB devices before loading the firmware in. But there are many speed benefits after booting...

Re: How to almost "shutdown" the Pi, only HDMI showing an image, to save battery

If your concern is to save power, you could try downclocking the components as much as possible and especially shutting down the ethernet/wifi/bt stuff (which is AFAIK the biggest idle drain)

Re: High Endurance SD card

But as said, everyone is free to decide whatever s/he find fits best for her/him. Where I live the price of a 120 GB SATA III SSD is about the same as a 128 GB SD card. Assuming the USB to SATA converter is not expensive, then cost is not a distinguishing factor between the two options. On the othe...

Re: High Endurance SD card

however Sandisk aren't honouring this now as its been used as a boot device and it's not designed for that Using an SD card in a Raspberry Pi voids the warranties from many manufacturers, not just Sandisk. With all the Raspberry Pi computers sold, there should be a market for cards designed to be u...

Re: Cooling the pi with chinese/xiaomi usb stick fans

If you're going to have very heavy usage, then this kind of fan will certainly help. I have a case with one of those tiny GPIO-powered fans on mine, and while it helps tremendously, it can't run at full load forever. USB fans like these are a lot more powerful though. I recommend pairing them with a...

Re: Release: Multiple 64Bit OS 3bplus desktop&lite

Are there benchmarks of software, like ffmpeg, to show if there is a performance increase that's worth it?

Congrats to the foundation and its staff for this revision! It looks great. I have a question... what exactly is going on in this picture? Official fan... in the back? https://www.raspberrypi.org/app/uploads/2018/03/770A6342.jpg EDIT: I found the answer in this article https://blog.hackster.io/meet-...

sdram_freq setting does not seem to be taken into account

Howdy folks, I have two Raspberry Pi 3 boards, one of which is a little bit more overclocked than the other... and I just realized, using vcgencmd get_config int that the sdram_freq parameter is never taken into account. All others are, including the SDRAM-specific overvoltages and "schmoo" timings....
