Re: .NET Core - Raspbian or Win10IoT?

jahboater, Yes. Problem is we are trying to describe the infinite detail of the real number line in the finite space of the computer. But wait, that cannot be. Every schoolboy knows that: 0.3 + 0.3 + 0.3 = 3/10 + 3/10 + 3/10 = (3 + 3 + 3) / 10 = 9 / 10 = 0.9 Every schoolboy has a finite sized brain...

I have absolutely no idea why I'm biting on this. I'll use it as an excuse to exercise my brain. So while I'll write as though I'm speaking to you, I'm really more interested in just writing down my thoughts. I also stopped reading all the comments when I realized that it would be a REALLY REALLY l...

Re: .NET Core - Raspbian or Win10IoT?

For other languages, once the code is JITed, I don't see why it couldn't be 2 instructions. JITing takes time, but in most applications it doesn't really matter that much... once the initial JITing is done, it can run fast enough to just JIT everything else during idle cycles. Yes, agreed. But don'...

Re: .NET Core - Raspbian or Win10IoT?

but nowadays some interpreted languages are actually JITed, so they can also do the same... Yes, I know they can do some pretty clever stuff and loops perform well. So why is the execution time so long for these languages (74 minutes for Python :) :) )? Show me any interpreted language that can do ...

Re: .NET Core - Raspbian or Win10IoT?

Here's the code in C: int main() { int max = 2147483637; int count = 0; while (count < max) { count += 10; count -= 9; } return 0; } As you can see, there's really nothing. C (compiled directly on the Pi with the default cc 6.3.0-18+rpi1+deb9u1) Time elapsed was 21.6s Something wrong here! This cod...

pauliunas, Ah, OK, my apologies. When you said "bullshit with capitalization" I thought you meant that silly thing that people do on the net, writing in all uppercase to add emphasis, often known as "SHOUTING". Why on earth would my use of "Open Source license" be bullshit, or ridiculous or cringy?...

pauliunas, Hey, thanks for trying that out. What did you do. Your C# conversion looks good. But that /benchmark/bin/Publish/linux-x64/benchmark is not a CIL image. It's a Linux native executable: $ file ./benchmark/bin/Publish/linux-x64/benchmark ./benchmark/bin/Publish/linux-x64/benchmark: ELF 64-...

Be careful with such benchmarks. When I compile your code I get: $ gcc -o junk junk.c $ time ./junk real 0m8.967s user 0m8.813s sys 0m0.031s Which is slower than the node.js version: $ time node junk.js real 0m1.818s user 0m1.719s sys 0m0.109s But wait, that is compiled without optimization. So I have two RPi0w's each set up to capture live video frames in a python script using picamera, and I have them synced very closely in the hope to do binocular vision analysis on a PC running on the same local network. ( Details in this thread ) However, I'm not sure what the best method is to tr...
