Re: Help with WiFi

My apologies. Apparently, I had a typo in my /etc/network/interfaces file. I activated wlan0 and then configured wlan1. Oops. Anyway, works fine now. Sorry for the bother.

Help with WiFi

I have a model B running Debian. When I plug in my Tenda USB wifi, lsusb shows the device there, but wicd is not showing any connections. The same Tenda unit works on another computer, and there is a valid connecting hub just inches away that my other laptop is connected to, so I'm assuming I'm doin...

It's in the distro now (both openoffice and libreoffice), so thanks to the secret package wizard people!

Re: USB WiFi Not Working

xmanmonk, in case your USB Wifi is still being obstinate... 1. If you don't have it already, you will find wicd, the wireless network manager, useful: sudo apt-get install wicd 2. With Raspian I have the Cisco Linksys AE1000 (Ralink RT3572 chip) working out of the box after configuration with wicd....

Re: USB WiFi Not Working

The D-Link wireless N Nano USB adapter worked out of the box for the Adafruit Rpi 'Occidentalis' distro. I found that the simplest wireless solution by far for the Raspbian distro is to use a wireless-to-ethernet adapter; I use the Netgear WNCE2001. Thanks, Dafyddg. Good to know when I decide this ...

Re: USB WiFi Not Working

Thanks, everyone. I'm not sure about the branding of the unit, so I'll do a lsusb on it. Don't know why I didn't think of that. It's an old unit I had sitting about. Someone gave it to me a while back, and he said it had an installation disk he no longer could find (probably Windows drivers). Anyway...

USB WiFi Not Working

My plug-in ethernet works wonderfully. I just tried my USB WiFi controller, and I'm not getting anything. Is there something I need to install first, or something I need to configure so that the WiFi adapter is seen? FYI I'm running Wheezy. Thanks.

Re: iTunes like software?

At the command line, you can type "sudo aptitude" and that will start the aptitude package manager. Just use Ctrl-T to get to the menu items. It's a bit crude, but you'll get the hang of it. You can search for packages by name or general description. Note, it's a bit slow sometimes, so if it looks l...

Re: Request for LibreOffice in Wheezy Distro

Yeah, it wasn't unusable on Squeezy, but it was certainly slower than it was on my laptop, which isn't all that fast to begin with. Still, my intent is to use it as a backup in case the laptop goes out.

Re: Request for LibreOffice in Wheezy Distro

Yeah, I figured. I'm picturing a heavy reliance on swap. And I'd probably want to turn grammar check off :) However, I had OpenOffice Writer running on Squeeze, and the performance was slow but usable (as long as nothing else was running).

Re: iTunes like software?

I also find Amarok a bit too much. On my Mint machine, I run Clementine, but I'm not sure if it's in the pi distribution list (my pi isn't hooked up right now). Check out whether it's there. If so, give it a try. I really like the interface and find it very similar to iTunes.

Request for LibreOffice in Wheezy Distro

I'd like to request LibreOffice be added to the Wheezy distro (as most of it's constituents are already there). Please let me know if this is not the right forum for this. Thanks.

Right. I'll give that a go and let you know how it gets on. I have to wait a minute because my cell phone is charging and (I never thought I'd say this, but...) they use the same cord. :)

Re: LibreOffice not installing on Wheezy

OK, sorry. I thought this had been done. There are people on other forums who are talking about it working, just do a sudo apt-get install libreoffice and all is well. Well, all was not well with my little Pi, and I thought perhaps I'd broken a package or something. I had OpenOffice running on my Pi...

Re: iTunes like software?

I use gtkpod for my ipod shuffle. If you are looking for something that connects to an ipod, give that a try. It doesn't allow you to purchase music, but it does allow you to upload/download to/from the ipod. It's in the repository, but I haven't tested it on the pi, only on other linux platforms.

Re: Overscan on Wheezy

Thanks all! That worked. Just so you know, there's a line in the default config.txt file that disables overscan (something obvious like disable_overscan=1). I just set that to zero, added my overscan lines, and all works perfectly. Thanks so much!

Ah, I'll give that a try. I hadn't messed around with that too much as I was just trying to get the little bugger to boot in the first place :) I'll go in there and do that. Thanks much! Another six-pack I owe you all!
