Re: After recent update, Raspbian crashes on Wi-FI access point restart (Pi3, PiZeroW)

A couple of days?? The last version went from "does anyone feel like testing this?" to "looks like it's fine for a few million devices" in 15 days . But it wasn't fine. It didn't just cause a difficulty with one or two programs. It crashed the entire system. How about making that "couple of days" a ...

Re: After recent update, Raspbian crashes on Wi-FI access point restart (Pi3, PiZeroW)

I have no knowledge of how Linux drivers operate, but (since the fault can cause screen corruption) it seems likely that the faulty driver has access to all memory regions and basically "writes all over the place", so the eventual crash reports (when the Pi doesn't just hang up) are probably the res...

Re: No Wifi connection to Pi Zero W after Raspbian update

The new firmware crashes Raspbian even if the SSID is not disabled. It is necessary only for the Wi-Fi connection to be lost, then restored. The fault is seen with an ASUS access point and with a recent Motorola Android phone (configured for "tethering"). I have given details here: https://www.raspb...

Re: Showing a Pi can replace a standard computer

It will probably be best to avoid anything that needs much RAM, since even a low-spec PC has far more. The same goes for processing power, so avoid showing web pages with much JavaScript. Don't mention the possibility of using two displays, a mouse pad, high-speed Ethernet, USB3, 5GHz Wi-Fi, high-sp...

Re: After recent update, Raspbian crashes on Wi-FI access point restart (Pi3, PiZeroW)

Further to the initial report, note that the current version of Raspbian will crash: if there is a Wi-Fi connection and the access point is restarted. if a Wi-Fi connection is lost, then regained (even if the access point is not restarted). (This may occur under difficult radio conditions e.g. where...

After recent update, Raspbian crashes on Wi-FI access point restart (Pi3, PiZeroW)

Summary: 2017-11-29-raspbian-stretch-lite.img is satisfactory for Wi-Fi, but crashes when patched up-to-date (11th February 2018) if the access point is restarted. Symptoms are variously a "hang", screen corruption and/or report of "kernel panic". A fresh installation from the image shows no problem...
