Re: Epson WF3640/CUPS Problems

Hi, I have an Epson WF3540 with the same issue. The response by "newline" from about a year ago seems most likely to provide a workable solution. I've never tried to compile from source -- so another new thrill in my exploration of linux via the RPi. Unfortunately, the page on which newline found th...

is there a list of default software in Raspbian stretch?

I could find a list of software included in Debian Wheezy, and it was pages and pages long. What I am really interested in is what other apps or utilities or software that is directly useful to the user but "hidden." I'm thinking of things like "Nano." Nano doesn't appear in the drop-down menu, but ...

Re: I did something foolish (pixel doubling) with my pi 0 W

Ktricks provided the solution I used. I was able to VNC into the pi-0-W and use "Method 1" to turn off pixel doubling. As ktricks suspected, I had to make the y/n selection flying blind, but it worked! I'm very glad I didn't have to try Method 2. That seems like a lot of changes to things that are n...

Re: Using R with the Pi

Hi, I guess that Doug W has abandoned his Wordpress site for discussing the use of R on the Pi architecture. I'd like to suggest that the Raspberry Pi Foundation try to make a connection with the folks developing GUI interfaces to R to see about supporting one (or more) of them on the Pi. I think th...

I did something foolish (pixel doubling) with my pi 0 W

I have my pi 0 W connected to a TV set above my treadmill. Usually, I log in using VNC from my laptop. But, I shut it down by accident (instead of closing the connection), so I had to reboot it. While messing with the set up, I noticed the option to do pixel doubling and thought I would try it. And,...

Re: Brightness settings using GUI

Would it be possible to share your script? Maybe there is a way to get it from the file you have posted showing the interface you programmed, but I am not aware of how to do this. I am using a Samsung NC10 and I am not able to control the brightness. (I can't really tell if it is at max already -- b...

Re: cannot pair bluetooth mouse (debian x86)

I'm almost sorry, but not quite. I think the RPi Foundation created a difficulty with their original nomenclature. I think this has made the job of the moderators more difficult than it should be. However, I believe that it is difficult to know (for a novice like myself) whether a question is relate...

Re: cannot pair bluetooth mouse

Reply to imperf3kt: No, I'm not using an experimental version of the GPU driver (my Atom chip has an integrated GPU -- I wouldn't dare). Basically hoping for fairly plain vanilla functionality on my old Samsung NC-10 netbook. Reply to Douglas6: You are correct, the addresses are SIX pairs of charact...

cannot pair bluetooth mouse (debian x86)

Hi, I'm using the new Stretch release of Debian for x86 with Raspbian desktop. The bluetooth controller in my computer is able to detect my Laser Travel Mouse (Logitech) and even has determined it's correct name/address (five sets of 2 characters each, separated by colons). This name/address is prin...

Re: what happened to wlan0 and how do i get it back?

One more word on this topic. I decided to go ahead and install Debian Stretch with Raspbian Desktop on the hard drive of my Samsung NC-10. It works quite well, with one exception -- noted below. The primary thing to relate in this thread is that wlan0 reappeared and works very well (I'm using it to ...

Re: what happened to wlan0 and how do i get it back?

Thank you for those suggestions. When I enter the lshw command there is no entry for wlan0. When I enter the ifconfig wlan0 up command it says: wlan0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device. Yet, this very machine used to run on wlan0 before i plugged in the ethernet cord. I do not reme...

Thanks for explaining how to rename the desktops -- I had discovered that on my own in the meantime. :D

what happened to wlan0 and how do i get it back?

I posted about this before, but didn't get a response to the issue I raised. So, try, try, again.... I am using the Raspberry Pi Desktop on a Samsung NC-10 (via a USB stick). It worked very well as a system to take on vacation and use to connect to wifi in hotels, etc. Back home, I thought I would s...

Re: Can I have more than one desktop?

I didn't really make my issue very clear. fruitoftheloom posted two links: the first https://wiki.debian.org/DesktopEnvironment was about how you could have different desktop types (if that is the word I want), for example Gnome or KDE and switch between them -- that is beyond where I wanted to go, ...

Can I have more than one desktop?

I am using PIXEL Powered by Debian on my Samsung NC-10. One use I have is to connect to a PiZeroW on my network. I would like to be able to have two desktops available that I could toggle between -- one showing something on my PIXEL system and one showing the PiZeroW. I have previously used Puppy Li...
