Re: IT education for the unemployed and disabled

As the free course starts tomorrow I thought I'd add a quote from the Python forum. MITx has the 6.00x course: Introduction to Computer Science and Programming and it will begin again on February 4th. The programming part is in Python. The course is very well structured; there are problem sets to be...

Re: MIT python course

As the course starts tomorrow, I thought I'd add that I've signed up. It looks great, I'm interested to learn about MIT, Python, brush up on computer science, and see distance and eLearning in action. :)

Do we need more reasons to join? Oh and it's free (so is access to the course textbook online)!

Re: Basic WiFi Setup using new image

Thanks that fixed it. :) I thought wpa_supplicant was the new way of doing things, but it looks like /etc/network/interfaces is much easier to setup.
I hadn't thought of using a live CD/Memory Stick to setup the SD card, that's a good idea.

Basic WiFi Setup using new image

This is a very noob question, or it should be. I've searched the forum and Google but didn't find an answer that worked. I can connect to my WiFi network using wpa-gui (WiFi Config) but only if I connect manually. I run my RPi in a headless configuration and normally just use SSH without X. I've bee...

Re: Installing python-eeml for python3

Thanks for your help and advice. Just to update you on my progress. I tried to convert the eeml package to Python3, but I think it may require more patience than I have for the task, I ran 2to3 that seemed to do not very much, changed ' ' to b' ' and used .decode() to get the text to print correctly...

Installing python-eeml for python3

I'm trying to use my Raspberry Pi with an Arduino attached to update Cosm. I started with this page: http://community.cosm.com/node/114 The code works will on python (version 2.7.3rc2) but I would like to try python3. I am very new to python and I'm not sure why python3 is better but having been rel...

Re: Automatic setup for RTL8188CUS based wifi adapters

I found that my problem was the power supplies I was using! I tried a USB port on my TV, I tried using a D-Link USB powered hub (DUB-H4), I tried a Powergen Mobile Juice Pack. I tried the WiFi adapter via the USB hub and direct. The solution was to use an Argos phone charger (http://www.argos.co.uk/...

Re: Automatic setup for RTL8188CUS based wifi adapters

Thanks for your very quick reply, and your help by creating the script in the first place. I had always started the process with Ethernet connected and the WiFi adapter out. I ran the script and tried to connect to my router with WPA2 and again (from a new SD image) with an Android phone as an open ...

Re: Automatic setup for RTL8188CUS based wifi adapters

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I've tried searching for the answer and my head is starting to hurt. I followed the instructions here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/80256631/install-rtl8188cus.txt I copied the files onto the boot partition and ran the script with Ethernet connected and a fresh...
