Re: I accidentally unplugged my power adapter while it was installing the latest updates

You could plug the sdcard into a PC, chroot into the SDCard and perform a:

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg --configure -a
followed by

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update && sude apt-get upgrade
Once finished, it may rescue without re-installing.

It'd be helpful to have an example or two of non-working sites.

Nevertheless, have you tried whitelisting them in PiHole?

Why I love my PIs

Small
Retro gaming
Nextcloud - giving access to my files from anywhere
Plex, giving access to my media anywhere
PiHole, for ad blocking
VPN, for security
tvheadend - for live TV anywhere (via Kodi)

I could go on. Why do you love your PI(s)?

Re: Pi, amplifier and speakers

If you have one Pi physically connected to the speakers, you can use pulseaudio to have all Pis output to those speakers, connecting to the pulseaudio server on the physically connected Pi. I should qualify: On the client machines (i.e. those not physically connected), modify /etc/pulse/client.conf ...

1: Why are you mounting the drive to /home? /home is required otherwise for local (i.e. user) config files Create a mount point in /mnt sudo mkdir /mnt/media Then change the owner sudo chown pi /mnt/media Then edit fstab to mount the drive at the new mount point sudo nano /etc/fstab Replace nano wit...

My SDCards are only used for boot. Everything else is on NAS drives, so I expect the SDCards to last longer than me.

Entertaining - and Pi features

I use Arch on my desktop, and so have shared this there. Pi also gets featured (more than Arch), but regardless, it's entertaining.

Try a fresh install. On one of my Pis where audio is not required (meaning I've installed nothing extra for audio, on a headless setup) aplay -l returns **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: ALSA [bcm2835 ALSA], device 0: bcm2835 ALSA [bcm2835 ALSA] Subdevices: 7/7 Subdevice #0: subdev...

Re: How can I prevent root to expand at first boot?

Has the OP question been answered? I see a lot of discussion about why you don't need to disable it, but what if there is one reason for disabling it that I consider valid? /rant It simply fails here, but a valid reason is if you are booting from a USB drive (with rootfs on that drive) and the rema...

Re: Not able to ssh without password even after adding ssh-key

Try (and I'm going to assume you have vim, but you can substitute nano): vim .ssh/known_hosts Delete the entry for the failing ssh session. Save, and retry. A good idea in theory, but it doesn't work very often in practice because the hostnames are hashed. So, it is hard to tell which line to delet...

Are you booting to a desktop/UI (e.g. retro)? If so, have you tried rebooting with a monitor/display connected. I find my RetroPi failes to boot unless it has an active display.

Well, a quick aside. It turns out Pi #3, being the one I had to move to the only working NAS drive, whilst it booted fine, failed to after an update. But, not the end of the world, it had owncloud on it, and I'd been meaning to switch to nextcloud anyway. So downloaded the latest raspian and started...

Re: if/else statement to run gui or no gui?

Then you would probably be better with the minimal install (without X), which can be entirely headless. Out of 4 Pis, I only have two that have a GUI, and one of them doesn't launch it unless I tell it to manually. The other is retroPi, which would be kinda useless without an Xserver.
