Question about powering RPi from solar panel.

I've done quite a bit of searching and I can't seem to find a straight forward concrete answer. This is what I want to do: I want to have my Raspberry Pi 3, with the NoIR camera setup out in the woods and ran completely by a power bank (portable cell phone charger, etc.) and a solar panel. At night,...

Re: General question about RPi projects

If/When I ever get to a "final version" of my project, ever connection will definitely be soldered unless there is a situation where I can have male/female plugs for certain wires.

I'll check Amazon and see if they have something I could use. I live in the US (Florida).

Re: General question about RPi projects

OK, I see now (sort of)! I understand what you're saying, I was just having a hard time following the wires and know what was what. Just out of curiosity, what is that your building? Also, when I purchased a Kit, it came with a rather large breadboard. That's what I use for testing and just setting ...

General question about RPi projects

Whenever you guys plan out or build your project, do you sometimes have to use a breadboard because you have so many different things connected via GPIO pins? I'm currently working on building a trail camera, which will have a temperature sensor, PIR, Real Time Clock, temperature sensor, IR LED arra...

Re: L293D troubleshooting for IR camera cut control

Did you ever get your trail camera completely built? If so, I'd really like to see the final outcome and maybe some coding! Right now, I manage about 30+ trail cameras on our property. To make a long story short, I've been wanting/trying to build a trail cam using a RPi, but I'm a noob with pi and p...

Re: Need a quick answer please!

I'll try to get some pics on here as soon as I can. Every time I try to attach a photo here, it says it's too large. I've resized them 3 times and it's a pain to do on RPi, hehe. Will see what I can do after dinner.

Re: Need a quick answer please!

I was reading where someone else did sort of the same thing, and this was on their "parts list": a step-down-converter 12V to 5V (LM2596 DC-DC adjustable Step-Down I looked on eBay, because that's where they purchased it from, but I don't know if that's actually what I need, or if I have other optio...

Re: Need a quick answer please!

I don't think so... They are just small 1" x 2" circuit boards with the IR LED bulbs on them.

Need a quick answer please!

To make a long story short (I posted my project in another thread, but will follow up here with a new post on the details of my project), I need some help figuring out what I need to buy. I'm essentially "trying" to build a Trail / Security camera (camera for capturing photos of wildlife in the day ...

Re: New to Pi... Is this Trail Cam project possible?

basically, I'm wanting to build a trail camera (you could call it a security camera, they pretty much do the same thing), where you open the case that I have it in, power it on and it boots to my application where I can adjust settings such as trigger delay, amount of photos to capture, how long to ...

Re: New to Pi... Is this Trail Cam project possible?

So far, I found a blog from someone who started a similar project. He built his "PiTrailCam" using a python script. He has constant power via PoE, so his setup isn't necessarily exactly like mine (mine will be remote, solar + battery power). Anyway, I'm currently trying to get his app to run on my P...

Re: New to Pi... Is this Trail Cam project possible?

Thanks for the info guys.. Gives me some more stuff to look into. I think what I'm wanting is relatively simple. Most of what I'm seeing out there already (have already done numerous hours of googling and searching) is pretty complex or just not really what I'm wanting to do. Essentially, I want to ...

New to Pi... Is this Trail Cam project possible?

Hello everyone, I'm new to the Raspberry Pi world. Not sure why it took me so long to get into it, but I'm here now! I've been in the IT field for 20-22 years and currently a systems administrator for the past 13 or so years. My project is to build an actual Trail Camera for monitoring wildlife on s...
