Re: Strange noise in HDMI picture

That looks for all the world like analogue noise. I'd expect that if you were using the composite output with a badly screened cable, but not digital over HDMI. It could also be artifacts from some sort of digital processing happening on the TV. I don't think the Pi has the sort of processing that w...

Re: Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

Faulty card reader? If it's getting stuck at the same point with different cards, that suggests it is not the card. If you have downloaded the image more than once, and checked it has downloaded ok, then that shows it's not the download. Only thing left really is a fault with your card reader - any ...

Re: Strange noise in HDMI picture

As far as I am aware the signal path from the GPU to your TV via HDMI would be all-digital. What you're seeing there looks like noise from the TV itself. Try some different resolutions, or a better TV.

Re: Crossover cable problem- cannot connect to network.

You need to strip this back to basics. Tell the Pi not to have a fixed IP - put it back to getting it via DHCP. On your PC, click the network adapter that is connected to the Internet (Wifi) and in the options, set it to "allow other users to connect via this computers internet connection". When you...

Re: Can't get Vista to talk to a Samba printer

I'd avoid using Samba altogether anyway. I actually find using CUPS to be faster on my Windows 7 box printing to my Canon ip4300 via Kubuntu.

Re: 3G Dongle only connects for a few seconds (K3565)

I think your options may be: Reconfigure ssh to use a port that isn't blocked on T-Mobile (sorry, can't help any more than that - no idea how you would do it!) Switch to Vodaphone, who don't block the incoming ports (which is who I use for my laptop that has an ssh server, TFTP for PXE boot, http se...

Re: Dual-boot?

Ok, slightly different line of thought... I remember seeing on the Raspberry Pi FAQ: How does it boot? You have to boot from SD but a USB HD can “take over” after the initial boot. You cannot boot without an SD card. So could it be set to transfer boot to a USB Mass Storage Device if "bootable", and...

Dual-boot?

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere - I didn't see it in search (may be me being silly of course).

Is it possible to install a bootloader on Pi and have two OS installed on the SD card? I'd quite like to have the option to boot into "Everyday OS" and "Media Player Mode"....

Re: No output via HDMI ->DVI-D for DELL monitors

Hubertrum - I may be wrong, but I don't think the Dell monitors support audio input via the DVI-D socket. I think you still have to use the analogue audio input. That was certainly the case with my old Dell 19" monitor anyway, which came with a DVI-D cable for video and a 3.5mm stereo cable for audio.

Re: No output via HDMI ->DVI-D for DELL monitors

Have you tried the cable on another device - do you have a PC with an HDMI output you could test the cable with? I ask this because I've had a cable (no brand on it, from eBay, I think it was sold as Cablesson) that I used to connect the DVI output from a PC to the HDMI on my TV - works fine. Tried ...

Re: Power Supply discovery

It looks like an iPhone charger, but a bit chunkier. No idea if the negative rail is connected to earth, but the earth pin obviously plays a function. The cheap power supply is a generic iPhone charger (rated 1.5A 5V) from a supermarket - cost was £8, and the earth pin is plastic so clearly not conn...

Power Supply discovery

I've found something out about the Pi's requirement for a power supply. It doesn't seem to be only the quality of the power supply that is important, but the manner in which it creates a stable output. I had been having problems getting certain aspects working, and also the system was running painfu...

Re: Cannot open display

You can open a graphical program from the command line, but without a display manager running, it will not be able to open a display. When you start the program from a command line inside X, you already have a display manager running. When you start it from the command line outside of X, you do not ...

Re: USB Hubs Don't Work

I get sticky keys now and then - usually after exiting X, or having done apt-get, then it'll be fine again. I didn't even think that could be USB related. My keyboard and mouse are powered off a single 2.4GHz wireless dongle. There's only one single power supply into the Pi in that setup, which sugg...

There's no sound file with the Music Player on the Wheezy install that I can see. I've tried opening a few different files - WAV, MP3, no sound at all. I've done alsa-utils and snd_bcm2835 - until I'd done that I couldn't get anything at all. It's as if there's some vital part of X missing that enab...

Re: USB Hubs Don't Work

Not that this necessarily helps you with the Pi, but I had a Windows XP machine that did that. When I inserted the USB WiFi dongle into the hub, everything on the hub played up. I remember resolving it by installing USB drivers for the motherboard rather than Windows own generic drivers. Perhaps som...

I've spent at least 3 hours trying to get this to work... actually having looked at the time, more like 5 hours. I feel very disheartened. I'm sort of in the same boat. I can get the ./hello_audio.bin 1 command to make a sound via my HDMI, but no sound in the GUI - internet pages are silent, can't find any mixer app...
