Re: I2S Mems microphone & FFMPEG RTP Settings [Solved]

After many hours of troubleshooting I discovered that FFMPEG apparently "assumes" the input audio format to be pcm_s16le if not explicitly called out. The Adafruit MEMS microphone outputs pcm_s32le. So this commands works: ffmpeg -ar 8000 -acodec pcm_s32le -ac 1 -f alsa -i plughw:0 -acodec mp2 -b:a ...

Re: Owl Box Cam - NOIR V2

What I continue to struggle with is microphone selection. I've tried several USB mikes, USB/analog converters and even the Adafruit MEMs mike. Nothing works as well as the $10 USB mike I bought 3 years ago for my first wren house project. It of course is no longer available. Jim After 8ish hours of...

Re: Owl Box Cam - NOIR V2

Good job! Indeed, unlike most birds that enter nest boxes to have their babies, screech owls enter them to sleep. I have a lot of installations like you did, with pi3s and ir cameras. Also with P Zero W's. You can see some video here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6WdLRT7-envEr-2fD_uMfw/videos ...

Owl Box Cam - NOIR V2

I worked on it all summer. Our new screech owl box with RaspPi B+ and NOIR V2 camera. Put it up two weeks ago and already have a screech visiting it!

Humor: Syslog Messages

So I am doing some tests with power supplies and looking at Syslog files (under VAR directory) for under voltage errors. I am browsing the log events and note this particular entry: " Time spent starving for entropy " I am sure there is a very valid reason for this event but.... :D :D :D :D :D :D Jim

I2S Mems microphone & FFMPEG RTP Settings [Solved]

I'm building up my next video-enabled Eastern Screech Owl Box, and this one will use the RaspPi 3B+ and the NOIR V2 camera. I have used a similar configuration in our Wren House so not much new. One aspect that has been very frustrating is the microphone. I have tested several USB micrphones and ada...

Re: DIY Temperature Sensor

Please be warned that a lot of the cheap DS18B20 sensors you see online are copies or factory rejects. They usually do work, but their accuracy may not quite be within the official specifications Interesting. Do you have a preferred brand/source for DS18B20? I don't need super accuracy but I sure n...

Re: Silent movies ended more than 100 years ago!

Hi Artistic Forge, I use Raspberry PIs for monitoring our wren house and screech owl box. I struggled with audio as well. I settled on using UV4L as the video/audio capture software in the Pi, and then streaming out audio and video (RTP protocol) to iSpy (free) security camera software. iSpy has set...

I got mine set-up today! HQ Cam on a RPi 3B+ using the RPi Web Cam Interface. Video settings are "default" I hope I can bump up the quality even more!

Re: USB Microphone, FFMPEG/RTP & Channels [Solved]

In case anyone else runs into this. My RTP audio client only understands mono microphone input (for whatever reason). The new USB Microphone I am using is only 2-channel (stereo). I found an FFMPEG command that properly converts Stereo to Mono: ffmpeg -ar 8000 -ac 2 -f alsa -i hw:1,0 -ac 1 -acodec m...

USB Microphone, FFMPEG/RTP & Channels [Solved]

Curious if anyone has run into this and/or have insights. I'm using FFMPEG/RTP to stream audio from a USB Microphone connected to a RaspPi 3B+ to a PC client (iSPY). I also stream video using UV4L. This all works well using this command: ffmpeg -ar 8000 -ac 1 -f alsa -i hw:1,0 -acodec mp2 -b:a 128k ...

Re: fairly decent mic for singing and string instruments

Hi, The Pi Hut USB Microphone Hut looks the same as the one Adafruit sells. I purchased two and the volume level is super low. I have two so doubtful its a hardware issue. Adafruit has others on their support forum with the same issue and no solution yet. I'd stay clear of it. https://forums.adafrui...

Hi Jim1961, I am back looking at the bird box again, although too late for this season. I am now trying a setup with the V2 IR camera and a couple or more I/R LED's for lighting. I am having two problems with this setup when compared to yours. First is that the imge is very red whereas yours looks ...

Re: Raspberry Pi High Quality Camera

Is an NOIR HQ on the roadmap? I know there is a procedure to remove the IR Filter on the HQ - I'd prefer to wait for an official one.

Thanks for the wonderful news - I am an amateur photographer with Nikon equipment - so I guess a CS to F-Mount adapter is next.
