Re: media center: volume control; contrast/brightness; EQ

Thank you both for the follow-ups and additional thoughts. I've since read a variety of replies like this in other forums (i.e. 'adjust your TV, not the software'). How do people's TVs magically adjust for brightness/contrast between various videos, tv shows, films & the like? Don't they find th...

Re: media center: volume control; contrast/brightness; EQ

Thank you, I didn't realize I was out of date... a friend recommended OpenElec when I said I didn't want to be fussed with mounting various drives. I'll check out Raspbmc and LibreElec, and see if they offer something closer to what I'm shooting for. The TV we're using is very old, so both as a matt...

Re: adaptor for older monitor

Thanks... I posted a reply earlier but must have messed up so will try again: the stuff about a "powered" adaptor is confusing to me. The adaptor would plug into... a USB hub, then? Because if I can't run a "passive" adaptor for fear of frying the board (meaning: I can't plug the...

Re: adaptor for older monitor

Thanks! So something like this would be okay then? https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Active-Adapter-Support/dp/B008O7RH5C I'm having trouble finding anything with separate power source. They all seem pretty much the same. Will it harm the Pi if I use one of these...? I looked through the site but...

adaptor for older monitor

Greetings, I am trying to hook up a RaspPi 3 (essentials kit) to an older monitor. I'm confused about what adaptor to buy. The monitor only takes VGA. It is a NEC Multisync LCD1760V. 100-240V, 50/60Hz, 0.7-0.36A. Model L173FB. Is the next move to buy an HDMI to VGA adaptor? I just don't want to buy ...
